I don't even know what to say. That deer has seen some things, man. There's certainly some trauma in its past. Just a cold-blooded remorseless killer.
Either that or the bunny was the deer's lifelong homie and she just wasn't letting fluffy go out like that.
Or maybe the deer and hawk had a beef and the deer was just waiting for a moment like this to catch the hawk slippin?
Either way, that hawk was not getting away with its life. The deer made sure of that.
If you've seen anything crazier than this today, I don't even wanna know what it is.
Wow. That doe is relentless. You also hear the robins going nuts in the background.
maybe the deer has mad covid disease...
âIâve seen things you people wouldnât believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. A hawk swooping down on a rabbit, which is then rescued by a deer. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die Mr. Hawk.â

Blade Runner - The Bambi Cut
How this for an odd one. Friend observed a heron catch a fish and take it to shore. Tried to swallow it but was too big. So the heron put the fish back in the water.
I LOVE THAT!!!

I did! Was great! But am Looking to Windward for more excitement, something with more Surface Detail, like the Algebraist.
Me too. I have a small commercial orchard bordered by woods. Owners of woods don’t allow hunting. Bastards are like locusts. A fence is too expensive ugly as hell. Game warden will be over tomorrow to review damage and permit me to shoot them. No limit, at nights, can use spotlights. My scoped Mosin nagant with bayonet is going to get a workout.
In your damning of deer, you left out that they host ticks.
A big problem in coastal New England.
Outdoors/Rural/wildlife/hunting/hiking/backpacking/National Parks/animals list please FR mail me to be on or off . And ping me is you see articles of interest.
We live on the edge of some hills here in AZ and have heard it numerous times when coyotes also can be heard to be about. Unsettling describes it quite well. Have heard several cats get it, too. Not a pretty sound.
You are right about the deer destroying backyards. And I can’t find any fence builders to build a fence around my backyard. They are so busy, they can’t even come out and give me an estimate for a month or more.
Epic
+1
Agree with the others opining that the deer was behaving protectively, on instinct. Eagles will attack and even carry off fawns sometimes, although I doubt a hawk could do that.
Life is riskier for predators than ya think. ;)
(I didn’t watch the video so if it turns out to be cute little rabbits wearing sunglasses I’m gonna come back here and flame you to a crisp.)
I think the deer killed out of instinct.
I had to literally fight a Golden Eagle that was trying to get my little Portuguese Podengo Medio, right in my back yard with 7 other big dogs standing there, like it didn’t give AF about them *or* me being there.
Those flying lizards can kill wolves.
Feckin thing beat me bloody, black and blue with its pinions and talons.
Good on the doe!
/raptors suck
Oh, you would, you weird hussy.
;D
