Same as previous weeks. Michigan, Tennessee and Washington did not report. Michigan reported over 200 dead last Tuesday and Tenn/Wash added north of 100.
With them added, today’s death count looks slightly above last Tuesday. 3050ish.
There have been weeks when missed states report a few hours later and it reflects properly in the graph. But there have also been weeks when it did not.
One thing notable, the supposed cessation of deaths 1 Feb reporting to HHS is not in obvious evidence here.

but supposedly over 99% of the new cases are omicron, not covid- omicron doesn’t cause deaths, so why are we still seeing over 2000 deaths a day in the us?
I wonder what the tolls from past flu seasons would look like, if they also included co-morbidities as they are doing with WuFlu. For example, the 2017-18 season had about 86,000 flu deaths.

where are the deat5h reports FROM omicron? Africa and other nations state that it is very mild, and not causing deaths hardly at all
i think a lot of deaths were flu but counted as covid- odd that the flu should just disappear for 2 years while covid is around-

Because deaths from omicron are almost non existent in africa from omicron- surely many old people with comorbidities in africa also got omicron being that it swept the nation rapidly, and the deaths woudl be reflected in the numbers- yet i don’t see any reports of large numbers of sickly folks, of which there are plenty there- dying from omicron there- -
It’s pretty interesting to drill down into that map. In my “past peak” area, all the “big” (for this area) hospitals are in the orange or red, while smaller hospitals are mostly “blue”. In one town (well over an hour away) with both a “large” and a smaller hospital, the larger facility is reporting -

One bad multi-car accident on either of the 2 nearby Interstate highways nearby and they’ll be shipping out patients - not necessarily even critical ones. By those stats EVERY non-ICU room is occupied. (Makes sense, local docs say they’ve been full to the gills with moderate cases.)

I have a feeling data from some smaller hospitals is essentially useless.
Looking elsewhere across our region, some hospitals’ ICU’s are completely maxed out: The nearest to me has 24 of their 24 ICU beds in use, with just under 20% of the non-ICU beds still available; another a few miles away has 21 of 44 ICU beds available and similarly just under 20% of non-ICU beds available. The latter may be an example of ICU beds available but some poorly purposed for respiratory diseases: That hospital is where most ambulatory auto accident patients go, and we fairly often have accidents sending several serious or worse patients there (esp. from the omnipresent (small “o”) work zones on the Interstate hwy.
One other thing I noticed is that facilities near us that specialize in extended recovery type care (no ICU beds, they take mostly patients recovering from ICU time) are quite full. One I’m personally familiar with has 21 of 22 inpatient beds occupied.
omicron doesn’t cause death
Incorrect, and, SA's experience is unlikely, for a whole host of reasons, to necessarily predict ours exactly. About the best that can be said is Omicron is considerably less lethal per case than Delta. But, Omicron is considerably more infectious, and people in the US are mitigating much less, rather insuring they'll be exposed heavily. Also as discussed here on previous threads, our current case numbers are probably quite understated. Basically the two factors, higher cases x lower CFR, are cancelling out.
i didnt’ say it woudl predict ours exactly- I said that we are still averaging around 2000 deaths a day in the US, and it’s claimed that omicron is now and has been from awhile now, the dominant variant, making up over 99% of the cases of covid now- Omicron, being mild overall- isn’t causing deaths in other nations in the 1000’s- and they are having very few omicron deaths, but mysteriously, here in America, it looks like we are having 100’s per day? What’s up with that? Something isn’t jiving with the numbers when it comes to omicron and deaths-
Maybe all the deaths are left over covid 19 cases- i dunno- but if omicron is taking over- then we should see dramatic decreases in deaths very very soon- as covid 19 and delta becomes nearly extinct in the us, especially where regrettably mostly the elderly have died- killing off a great many of the elderly- leaving more healthy people in the nation, with most people now having natural immunity which will render the omicron even less a problem than it already is- -

Colorado cases still dropping fast, hospitalizations dropping, deaths never took off during this wave.
