Live stream from Galveston ^

Multiple tugs and patrol craft. Slow and stately tow. No incidents seen. Drydock is still 'wet' and the comments indicate that it wont be drained for a while.

Definitely good news.
A bit off-topic but my New Orleans grandmother liked to go to Galveston to gamble. She made so much money one night, they drove her home instead of letting her take the bus. My daughter and son-in-law went there one day when we were visiting relatives in Houston. Had fabulous shore dinner at some famous place, I think “Jack’s at the Beach.”

The only remaining World War I era dreadnought battleship. Powered by triple -expansion steam engines. Did shore bombardment from North Africa, through D-Day, and to Okinawa. Wow.

Battleship Texas served both in WWI and WWII.
It is finally getting much needed repairs.
I’ve been on it a couple of times after visiting the San Jacinto Monument.

She's also the last of the Dreadnaught type.
Seeing Texas for the first time was uncanny because of the tripod mast. They were phased out on most older US battleships when refitted after 1942.
Looking at her from the bow and seeing the mast is like seeing the ghosts of Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma, USS Nevada. All had the same type foremast.

The USS Texas under tow to Galveston. Looks like she might need that work.

Texas Ping, the Best State in the USA! Yes, that speedboat is from the Houston County Sheriff's Office, providing security. Not just goofing off on the water.
A ping out to the Texas Ping list, founded by Windflier.
Another special Texas August edition for your perusal.
As always, please FReepmail me if you want on or off the Texas Ping list.
Blessings, and stay cool!

I’m surprised she was able to make the voyage. She’s been in bad shape, for decades.
Can’t wait for her reno!!!

Somewhere there are pictures of me and my cousin on the Battleship Texas when we were about three years old.

Here's the accompanying
page at history dot navy dot mil. Location is "off New York" circa 1919. Several other pictures from the same time are floating around the 'net. The lattice masts were switched out for tripod masts in the 1920s.
