Oh, well…
Just put some railguns on her then!
Sadly, she doesn’t have the machinery space to mount generating equipment and power banks sufficient to power a railgun.
“The last surviving battleship on the planet to have served in both WW1 and WW2.”
Worth it just for that. I watched the trip down the channel will try at some point to post a pic of her when she was going down the channel with the sun coming up behind her, I cried.
I will probably never get to see a dreadnought moving again.
Well- “Everything is BIGGER in Texas”
The first time I saw The USS TEXAS was when visiting the San Jacinto Battlefield in 1970- I was 9 and it was the first time I ever saw a Warship in person.
She had holes rusted through at the waterline and was in the need of repairs and general maintenance but one could “feel” the history and weirdly the feel of Battle and Triumph or the Good and Bad times that occurred on the Ship would be closer to the feeling I had as a 9 year old kid.
I remember going below Deck and it was Texas in summer so in the high 90’s-low 100’s and I was surprised to find it was not as hot as I expected. There was a big industrial stand fan in one compartment moving the air around and there was a mixed smell of metal/paint/rust/petroleum: Fuel oil, grease, etc.
I lived in Texas for 36+ years and never made it back to the USS TEXAS. Next trip back will have to include a revisit.
guess I should of read down..... great photo
Great pic, Thank You !!!
Question 1) Houston ? County Sheriff boat. Do You mean Harris County ? Because Houston County Sheriff is based in Crockett, TX up east of DFW.
Question 2) So where’s the Fuel Barge that feeds the 3 x 5.7L V-8 @ 300HP each = 900 combined HP on that Sheriff boat ?
Question 3) Or do they have Fuel Bladders filling up the entire hull and have the Helicopter deliver any rescue or tactical equipment to the boat as needed ?

Click at the bottom to change GPH to MPG [for (1) one Engine]
Do they need to put Navigation Warning Beacons on the main mast ?
Imagine me cruising up and down Lake Lanier in this baby!
Great catch.
Yes it is Harris County Sheriffs.
And I was thinking the same thing about the engines on this boat. These guys must be sitting on a mighty big fuel bladder to be able to make it to Galveston.
At least they have a taxpayer piad-for fuel card.
3500 rpm = 10 GPH, times 3 engines = 30 GPH. Glad it’s not my boat!
Did You check out the GPH/MPG Link ? And that’s just 1 engine (5.7L=347.8cu”)
I can see the fuel gauge moving towards MT !
Thanks for the post and great photo’s.
Found this which gives a little more detail of it’s action at Normandy.

That’s pretty amazing how that bi-plane must have been able to take off on that small platform. I guess head into the wind and full speed with the ship and the plane is pretty much at flying speed to begin with.
Or, they hooked cables to one of those projectiles and then to the plane and yelled “fire!”.
It must have been a one-way flight to recon and then land on the ground? Or perhaps it was a float plane?
I was thinking some sort of launch help, like a giant rubber band!
It’s one of those vehicles, the speedometer moves up and the fuel gauge moves down. One moves faster then the other 🧐
