Majestic!

I used to love roaming the bowels of the USS Kidd in Baton Rouge with my son. One of the gate keepers was a former sailor on the ship (I forget when, but after WWII - possibly Korea when my dad was there). We learned he was a running back from the San Diego Chargers in the early '60's - so he probably served in Korea. What a gentleman - and he looked like he could still plow down anyone in front of him. He opened the engine room to my son and me. That was a real treat to have an actual sailor from the ship who helped to bring it back to the level where it passes inspection from the Navy! They left one room in original decay to show what they accomplished renovating it back to glory. I couldn't be more impressed. These old girls are worth every scar and broken knuckle to preserve them. And God bless then men and women who keep them ship shape, and who lived on them in the deep blue, and who built them... It's really quite and incredible effort over quite a few decades.

BR put on an awesome 4th of July reenactment of a battle - probably the one that left a hole in her side from a Zero. They had three Zeros and multiple Mustangs buzzing the area as the BR Concert Band provided timeless patriotic music. My Ex was the the flutist and played other winds. Very warm memories and God bless our Navy!
