Rising chess star Hans Niemann has admitted to cheating in online chess in the past as he rejected any suggestions he had used computer assistance in a major tournament.
The American made an impassioned statement during an interview with St Louis Chess Club commentator Alejandro Ramírez after allegations swirled on social media.
World champion Magnus Carlsen stunned the chess world yesterday by suddenly withdrawing from the Sinquefield Cup following his shock defeat to Niemann with the white pieces.

“Assistants” monitor game, relays moves to the analysts possibly using a chess engine relay recommended moves back to assistant who signal to the player.
Petrosian complained to the officials. After Nigalidze left the bathroom once more, officials inspected the interior and say they found an iPhone wrapped in toilet paper and hidden behind the toilet.
“When confronted, Nigalidze denied he owned the device,” according to the tournament’s Web site. “But officials opened the smart device and found it was logged into a social networking site under Nigalidze’s account. They also found his game being analyzed in one of the chess applications.”
How do they signal him? I assume that the officials and audience at chess match aren’t idiots.

His tweet had the (probably) intended effect of dumping on Neimann, and the YT'ers around the world, especially GM Hikaru, tried and convicted him of cheating.
In spite of the accusations and additional surveillance, nothing has been proved about any cheating.
It would not be that complicated to develop a body language with a willing partner (such as somebody in the audience) to communicate those moves to the player. The body language could consist of innocent moves such as crossing your legs, turning your head, checking your watch, rubbing your nose, etc.
