What Alex Cora Said About Red Sox Starter Matt Dermody and His Deleted Homophobic Tweet
Boston ^ | June 8, 2023 | Conor Ryan

"When you put this uniform [on], what we want is for people to be inclusive."

Ahead of the Red Sox’ series finale on Thursday night in Cleveland, Alex Cora addressed the controversy surrounding starting pitcher Matt Dermody and his homophobic tweet from 2021.

Boston has drawn plenty of criticism for its decision to call up Dermody to start on Thursday after MassLive.com’s Sean McAdam reported that the Red Sox were aware of the now-deleted tweet from the 32-year-old pitcher.

Dermody tweeted back in June 2021: “#PrideMonth. Homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God. They will go to hell. This is not my opinion, but the #Truth. Read 1 Corinthians 6:9. May we all examine our hearts, ask Jesus to forgive us and repent of all our sins. I love you all in Christ Jesus!”

While fielding questions ahead of Dermody’s start on Thursday, Cora was asked if he approves of Dermody’s call-up and the optics involved with his hateful comments.

“He’s going to pitch and he’s here,” Cora said of Dermody, as transcribed by MassLive.com’s Christopher Smith. “Obviously as an organization, we made this decision as an organization. We’ve done a lot of stuff to educate our players on the subject. I don’t know how many organizations … do it with their employees and their players as far as educating them about being inclusive and obviously accepting everybody in the clubhouse and your work environment.

“Obviously not too many people agree with the tweet [from] Matt. I’m not here to tell him what to say or what to do,” Cora added. “But one thing for sure, when you put this uniform [on], what we want is for people to be inclusive. I think the clubhouse is a reflection of the world if you think about it.

So, they need people to be inclusive, but excluding some people?

Quoting scriptures is now homophobic? I thought the gays just wanted to be “left alone”? Why can’t they provide others the same courtesy?”

The first step, years ago, would have been to reject the term homophobic. Homophobia would be an irrational fear of homosexuals. We are not afraid of these people

The mentally ill pervert-supremacists can say anything they want about the non-perverts.

Grown men showering together?

If the MLB was playing a game in my front yard, I’d close the curtains..

Of all the CLOWNS in major league baseball to be riding a high horse, it’s Alex Cora.

STEALING a World Series and getting suspended a year, and this guy thinks he has the right to sit in judgement of anybody?

He should have been permanently banned from baseball.

He is more deserving of a lifetime ban than Pete Rose.

Red Sox fan here.

A person managing the WORST TEAM IN MLB with the most ERRORS in baseball should keep his mouth shut.

When they put that uniform on what we really want them to do is play ball. Nothing else. Take our money, amuse us, shut up, go away. Like an actor or singer or hooker. When we need their opinion, we’ll pay for that or tell them what it is.

We did it 50+ years ago, in the military, maybe they have private showers now, I dunno.

“The first step, years ago, would have been to reject the term homophobic. Homophobia would be an irrational fear of homosexuals. We are not afraid of these people”

Yeah, “homophobia” is a ridiculous term. Greek homo (”the same”) + phobia (”the same”).

Fear of the same? Who amongst us is truly afraid of members of the same sex? Very, very few people, I’d imagine. One in a million, kinda thing, I’d guess.

So, “homophobia” is in fact divorced from its etymology and functions purely as an accusation against anyone who expresses disapproval of homosexual acts or the people who engage thereof.

It’s all a scam along the lines of “heads I win, tails you lose.”

If you approve of homosexuality, then you’re an ally. Great. They win.

If you disapprove of homosexuality, it’s because you’re afraid them and probably secretly homosexual yourself. Great. They win again.

Not the worse team in MLB, they would be tied for first place with the Twins in the AL Central.

Maybe the Red Sox (traditionally my favorite baseball team) has at least a small bit of integrity in the face of the “gay” hegemony!!!!

Perhaps a better term would be “homoaversion.”

“We’ve done a lot of stuff to educate our players.” Cowards feel the need to educate and boss around others. Brave people avoid parasites, illnesses, diseases, addictions and domestic violence.

not here to tell him what to say, but we’re going to ‘educate’ him and make sure he says and thinks what we want even if it’s against his religion.
