Biden's Washington Catholic church draws rosary protest for holding Pride Mass
Washington Examiner ^ | June 14, 2023 | Jeremiah Poff

Posted on 06/17/2023 5:54:04 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The Washington, D.C., Catholic church frequented by President Joe Biden will celebrate a gay Pride Mass on Wednesday evening, and a group of conservative Catholics are planning to pray the rosary outside the church in protest.

The pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown, which counts Biden among its congregants, defended the decision to have the Mass, saying it was not celebrating Pride in terms of vanity.

"This celebration is an expression of our parish’s mission statement TO ACCOMPANY ONE ANOTHER IN CHRIST, CELEBRATE GOD’S LOVE, AND TRANSFORM LIVES," the Rev. Kevin Gillespie said of the liturgical celebration. "Our celebration of Pride is not celebrating personal vanity, but the human dignity of a group of people who have been for too long the objects of violence, bullying and harassment. Our parish reaches out to LGBTQIA+ people as it reaches out to all Catholics in our area."

The Georgetown parish is hosting the Mass despite the fact that Catholic teaching holds that homosexual activity is a "grave depravity" and is "intrinsically disordered." The Catholic Church also teaches that "pride" is one of the seven capital sins, which "engender other sins," according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

A group of conservative Catholics has organized a rally outside the church to pray the rosary during the Pride Mass. The group said it plans to pray "in reparation for Catholic masses being held to honor and celebrate LGBTQ Catholics."

“The Catholic Church teaches that God endowed all people with dignity and they should be treated with compassion and respect," a flyer for the rally said. "But the Church does not celebrate sin, most especially at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass."

The Pride Mass at the president’s Washington parish comes days after Biden hosted a Pride celebration at the White House. The event drew criticism for prominently displaying the Pride flag on the south portico of the presidential mansion. The White House was also forced to condemn a transgender influencer who was seen topless at the event.

The Archdiocese of Washington did not respond to a request for comment.

These priests should be ashamed of themselves. They are “celebrating” perversion that Jesus Himself spoke against in the Bible. They are the prideful ones because they’re choosing to elevate their beliefs above His.

So how God treated Sodom and Gomorrah was “bullying and harassment”?

So where is the Pope? Oh wait I forgot, he is on the same team.

I doubt the Pope knows anything that goes on in the U.S. anyway. It might as well be the equivalent of beyond the edge of the Roman Empire.

Apparently, the pastor does not follow Catholic moral teachings but follows the ways of His Archbishop.

According to a previous statement he would give Holy Communion to Hitler (a baptized Catholic), Stalin (a baptized Catholic), Biden (a baptized Catholic) and even Xí Jìnpín (atheist).

The pastor appears to support Biden’s policies on abortion and many other actions that do not follow Catholic moral teachings.

Pride can be a serious sin, not a vanity.

While Satan is leading many away from Catholic moral teaching, do we need our Bishops and priests doing the same?

No, it's much worse. They are openly promoting sin. Would they be hosing an Adultery Pride mass? Murder Pride day? (well, probably they would applaud abortion so yes)

The building should be considered de-consecrated. No Christian go near it until the pastor is excommunicated and the building is reconsecrated to Our Father in Heaven, His Blessed Son, and The Holy Spirit.

You make a statement that is false. “Mass and the rosary are both unbiblical.”

The Christian can recognize the biblical nature of Catholic worship in the first prayer of the Mass, the sign of the cross. The language of the prayer comes directly from Matthew 28:19, where Jesus commands his apostles to go out into all nations and baptize them “in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

Another part of the introductory rite that parallels the biblical blueprint is the greeting. The priest says, “The Lord be with you,” and the congregation responds, “And with your spirit.” The first thing to note is the biblical origin of the language. It comes from 2 Timothy 4:22:

The Confiteor, which is the prayer that begins “I confess to almighty God,” is also rooted in biblical tradition.

The next part of the Mass is the Liturgy of the Word, many of whose parts are embedded in Scripture. First of all, the very act of proclaiming the Word of God within the context of liturgy goes back to the book of Exodus.

As the Mass moves into the Liturgy of the Eucharist, one continues to recognize a construct of prayers, gestures, and practices that allude to the Bible. For example, the bread and wine calls to mind the sacrifice of thanksgiving offered by the priest-king Melchizedek in Genesis 14:14-16. It is against this Old Testament backdrop that Jesus, whom the author of Hebrews identifies as a priest according to the order of Melchizedek (Heb. 5:10), offers bread and wine at the Last Supper.

First, the words “This is my body . . . this is my blood” find their origin in the Last Supper narratives of the Synoptic Gospels and St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians (see Matt. 26:26-28, Mark 14:22-24, Luke 22:19-20, 1 Cor. 11:24-25).

Secondly, the phrase “the blood of the new and eternal covenant” is a combination of Luke’s account, in which he records Jesus to say “the new covenant in my blood” (Luke 22:20) and Matthew’s version, in which Jesus is recorded saying, “For this is my blood of the covenant” (Matt. 26:28).

What does Christ offer to the Father in the heavenly sanctuary as high priest? The offering cannot be anything less than his sacrifice on the cross, since that was his definitive priestly act. Therefore, the Bible blueprint reveals the one and same sacrifice of Christ on the cross being made present in the heavenly sanctuary in an unbloody manner. Such a conclusion is also supported by the fact that St. John describes Jesus appearing in the heavenly sanctuary as a slain lamb (cf. Rev. 5:6).

The Rosary is a biblical form of prayer.

I hope that all read the Bible, understand God’s Truth, and accept the Words of Jesus as the Truth with faith.

There are many resources that provide God’s revealed truths, such as the Catholic Bible, Catholic Catechism, Apostles and Nicene Creeds, Mass and Sacraments. Among others, Catholic Answers can answer many questions about our Catholic faith/

The Rosary is a biblical form of prayer.

That is a lie.

This is how Jesus taught his disciples to pray (not one word of it is addressed to Mary or any other idol. God will not share his glory, Isaiah 42:8) -

"This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,'"
Matthew 6:9

The Rosary is a biblical form of prayer.
Your comment: “That is a lie”

Then prove it. You can’t.

Yes, Jesus taught us to pray the Our Father, but also to participate the prayers of the Mass and consume the Body and Blood of Christ, the Eucharist.

Yes, the words of the first part of the Hail Mary are from the Bible, perhaps you can find them?

By the way, where does it say that all prayers come from the Bible or that we can not pray to the saints in Heaven, including the Blessed Mother, to pray with us and to intercede for us?

Perhaps you are not aware of the naval battle between the Christians and the Ottoman Turks in 1571 where the men in the fleet (many criminals) knelt on the galleys and prayed the Rosary and people in Churches in Italy prayed the Rosary at the request of Pope Pius V.

You can thank all that prayed the Rosary that the Christian faith continued in the West and not overtaken by Islam.

What words in the Rosary bother you?

Just so that you know, the Rosary is prayed with this prayer to benefit all so that all may be accepted into life with God.

O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.

This prayer, given by Our Lady at Fatima and familiar to many who pray the holy rosary as the conclusion of each mystery, is a perfect response to the message of the Gospel lesson of this Sunday. Considering its meaning is also a perfect preparation for the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, to be celebrated on this Tuesday, October 13.

-Matt. 22:1-14 “Many are invited, but few are chosen.”

About you. You quote the Bible.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James 5:16

So you believe that we need to pray for one another, then why do you not respond when someone questions your statement?

So you now agree that the Hail Mary is a biblical prayer?

Do you only pray one prayer “Our Father”? Catholics pray it at every Mass. All are welcome to pray with us. Do you pray the Sign of the Cross, the Glory Be, and the Apostles Creed, etc.?

Calling Mary an idol is blasphemy and a grievous sin. Do you truly believe that Catholics worship Mary as God? Have you been told lies by false teachers? Jesus warned us about them in Mt 7 (know them by their fruits)

Mary was selected by God to become the Mother of Jesus (God) incarnate by the Holy Spirit with two natures Human and Divine. She accepted her role. Do you fully understand the relationship she has with Jesus as His mother? Do you not understand that her role helped Jesus complete his tasks for our salvation? Do you understand that the Blessed Mother is trying to help all of us to get to Heaven?

God has told us to pray for each other. So we pray with the Blessed Mother and the saints in Heaven and on earth to God.

Paul says that Christians should intercede: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. This is good, and pleasing to God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:1–4). Clearly, then, intercessory prayers offered by Christians on behalf of others is something “good and pleasing to God,” not something infringing on Christ’s role as mediator.

Why the concern about praying with Mary to God? As adopted children of God, most would want to be close to Mary that has an intimate knowledge of God.

God’s Peace be with you.

“Mary ... with two natures Human and Divine.”

What’s the chapter and verse on that “devine” part? I’d like to look it up.

“Do you pray the Sign of the Cross, the Glory Be, and the Apostles Creed, “

What are those things? 18 years in a parsonage, and 4 years in Seminary. Never ran across them in Scripture, except maybe when studying to avoid “vain repetitions” in Cult Class. There is that.

There is so much glaring blasphemy in the post that my thumbs would be sore if addressing all of it.

Mary, our Blessed Mother, was the Mother of Jesus (God) who has two natures (Divine and human) as one person. Just so that it is clear to you, it is Jesus that has two natures.

If you don’t know basic Christian prayers, perhaps your seminary training either had false prophets teaching or they missed key issues of our Christian God’s Truth.

Perhaps you could find some prayers in the Catholic Bible or in the practices of early Catholic Christians that have been passed down through Sacred Tradition.

Perhaps you should concentrate on the “vain repetitions” of protestants instead of the Rosary, such as ‘sola scriptura’; ‘sola fide’; ‘once saved’ etc. that are not biblical and are not God’s truth. I forgot that Luther added the word ‘alone’ to his translation.

Consider reading some of Dr. Scott Hahn’s books who attended protestant seminaries.

I do hope you truly find God’s Truth and not man’s truth and honor Mary as the Blessed Mother of God and given to John as mother and as our spiritual mother (Rev12:17) in John 19:26-27.

I am glad to engage in civil discussion about your explanations of my blasphemy. I hope my response has been respectful to you.

I truly believe that Jesus founded the Catholic Church and delegated his authority to Pope Peter and his successors (although sinners and imperfect). Jesus also established 7 Sacraments to help us in our journey towards Heaven. While other churches/religions may offer parts of God’s Truth, they also offer man’s truth that differs from God’s Truth.

Peace be with you.

In my faith, I stick to Scripture. Anything that is extra-Biblical is not inspired by God, and is man made. That’s why I must have a “chapter and verse” to support a belief or tenet.

Brainwashing has been more successful for some than for others. “Blessed Mother of God”, “Pope Peter”, “rosary”, “sacred tradition” (”tradition” NEVER EVER replaces Scripture!). All made-up stuff.

Jesus founded The Church — the body of Christ. Revenue-generating men founded the Catholic denomination.

Sometimes for fun I imagine Peter, a humble lowly fisherman, with Jesus on the shore. Jesus in his simple robe and sandals. Peter next to him wearing a big Bedazzled hat, draped in velvet, flashing gaudy jewelry, and sitting in a motorized glass bubble.
