I’m surprised old coins aren’t found more.

“”included a group of 1983 Double Eagles””

How can that be? If there are 1983 coins (Double Eagles) mixed in with all the older ones, someone would have to have known about all the others, wouldn’t they? Weird!!

Finding one Mint condition 1863 Double Eagle would be an important numismatic event. Finding nearly a roll of superb examples is hard to comprehend,"

... unless you are already an owner of one in which case your investment just got inflated.

Would you trumpet your find for the world to hear and have the Fed's step in and claim it was their property?

Not sure where you got the quote from. Either I am missing it or someone corrected it after your quoted them.

In either case, it was a group of 1863 Double Eagles - not 1983, which makes a lot of sense because there haven’t been any Double Eagles since 1933.

You didn’t see it in the article at the link? It’s still there. It hasn’t been corrected and that would be hard to do posting from an original article.

“”A total of 700 gold coins were buried on the farm and the hoard included a group of 1983 Double Eagles””
