The Ohio cop who released his police dog on a black truck driver who was surrendering earlier this month — ignoring clear orders to restrain the animal — has been fired.
The Circleville Police Department said Wednesday that Ryan Speakman “did not meet the standards and expectations we hold for our police officers” after he unleashed a German shepherd K9 that mauled Jadarrius Rose on July 4.
The 23-year-old black man, who had failed to stop his semi-trailer for a Motor Carrier Enforcement inspector while driving with a missing mud flap, was on his knees and with his hands up when he was mauled

Unless he also loses his police certification, that means nothing. Because many small towns are desperate for police officers. So a cop who is fired by one department often just moves on down the road and get hired by another.
Such cops are called “gypsy cops”.

Why does the article imply he was “being pulled over” for a missing mudflap. He ran the inspection point and then was chased for 25 minutes only stopping after the police deployed a spike strip and incapacitated. Sorry but these are important parts of the story. Also I’m not discounting the fact that the police officer should be fired and potentially charged.

According to the 911 call the driver placed asking for help the fact of his missing mud flap had 20 to 30 cops aiming weapons at him. He was in legitimate fear for his life as is illustrated by some out of control donut muncher sending a dog after an unarmed and surrendering man DESPITE other cops saying not to do this.
Had the state troopers not been there the truck driver may well have been killed. By cops.

They’re not relevant as to whether the officer was justified in loosing a dog on the man.
Sometimes a trucker actually doesnt see the inspection area in time to pull into it, or traffic doesnt allow him to merge over to it. There is a “fine” for it and most of the time there are cameras that record it so the fine can be issued. It not a felony arrest situation.
Does he keep the dog?
