AZ, AK, AL…they all look alike.
“Walk a little faster. The tollway is shut down,”
Commuters approve.
Every encounter with aggressive law enforcement can turn lethal.
They are not your friends.
They have no legal obligation to protect you.
If they commit a crime their department will cover it up.
If you haven’t done anything wrong they might kill you anyway.
As the years go by, I have become more and more critical of the police. And that’s because more and more of them seem to have ego and control problems.
This, however, appears to be just an honest mistake on the part of the cops. The stopped family deserves a written letter of apology from the city, and a settlement for the unnecessary stress they were put through. I’d say $50,000 would do.
I picked a relatively high number there due to the word “unnecessary”.
Can’t make mistakes these days - someone might get his feelings hurt.
Mistakes, no matter how innocuous or small, cause job loss and cities millions upon millions of dollars in lawsuits, which will certainly be the case here.
Very risky situation for the innocent people. The cops are primed to shoot them all dead because they think this is a stolen vehicle. The innocent people don’t know that this is the cops’ state of mind, and so will do innocent actions that the cops understand as the actions of felons, and so people will be shot dead.
An apology will be issued. But they would still be dead.
Suppose one of the innocent people had stuck his hand in his pocket to pull out his wallet! bang bang! “I thought he was reaching for a gun.”
Gee officer, can I apologize when you stop me for speeding? Or maybe DUI?
Trying to figure this out.
So the Frisco LEO entered the Atkansas license plate as from Arizonaap and it came ip as a stoken vehicle??
There was an Arizona stolen Black Chsrger wuth same plate numbers as an Arkansas legit Black Charger?
Sorry nit buying it.
Tge Frusco cop needs to be fired
You’d think that law enforcement is a profession where attention to detail would be considered very important.
Arkansas isn’t called Mayberry for nothing. Backward crazy police force.
It was so unusual for them to see ‘normal’ people, that they just assumed that they must be up to something.
Just think of it... They weren’t shooting needles, snorting stuff up their noses, or ranting like a Schizophrenic’s. All the typical things that San Francisco people do.
Good thing the family dog wasn’t in the car.
This happens more often than the police want to admit. Some innocent family threatened, put in real jeopardy and tramatized over misread plates, plates being entered wrong, wrong information in database, etc.
Even if a car comes back as stolen, I don’t think using a high risk stop should be standard procedure unless they have more information that confirms that it’s stolen or there is mminent risk.
I’ve seen too many videos of families with kids being put in handcuffs, made to lie face down on the ground only to find out it was a big “oops”.
This is what happens when the shiddy council crime experts decide to “defund” the police and hire a bunch of losers to replace the old veterans.
See what happens when you follow officers’ instructions? The proper outcome is achieved, albeit inconvenient.
EC
I would guess that the data entry resulted in a not valid registration which should have clued the officer of a typo in her entry.
Well, duh. Statement of the week.
Don’t get it. I just looked at the plates for Arizona and Arkansas and both have the whole name of the state on it. Thought it was because of their abbreviations but that’s not what is on the plates.
“ The ‘Frisco police Chief….”
I remember, not long ago, when a ‘Frisco cop nailed a wanted man when he referred under questioning to ‘Frisco as ‘Frisco.
“ No one in ‘Frisco refers to ‘Frisco as ‘Frisco” the cop said.
