PICTURED: Cops make first arrest after 'flash mob' of 30 thieves raided YSL store at LA mall for $400,000 worth of merchandise - as they release smirking photo of second suspect

Police have announced the first arrest in the recent 'flash mob' robbery at a Los Angeles area mall where 30 thieves made off with $400,000 in YSL merchandise.

Ivan Isaac Ramirez, 23, was apprehended Thursday for his alleged involvement in the massive theft of a YSL store at the Glendale Americana at Brand.

Another suspect, Brianna Jimenez, 21, is still at large and is currently being sought by police. Her smirking photo was released by cops over the weekend.

No other suspects' names have been released or arrests have been made.

Videos posted online from the August 8 robbery showed people in dark clothes and masks running into and then quickly out of the store.

The YSL incident is the latest in a series of recent 'flash mob' style robberies where large groups overwhelm employees and grab as much as they can before fleeing.

According to police, Ramirez was arrested and booked on several charges including organized retail theft, burglary, grand theft and conspiracy.

During the shocking robbery, the thieves used no weapons and took off with hundreds of thousands from Yves Saint Laurent in under a minute.

In a statement issued following Ramirez's arrest, Glendale Police Chief Manuel Cid said crimes like these are not acceptable in his city.

'I assure all members of the Glendale community and the broader Los Angeles region that these brazen smash-and-grab robberies and burglaries will not be tolerated,' said Cid.

'This marks the first arrest related to this crime and there are more arrests to come,' the police chief continued.

Footage from the robbery at the store showed a group of hooded and masked thieves running out of the shop with arms full of merchandise.

Real simple.

400000/30 = each thief pays up $13,333 in damages to go back to the store. Then each thief pays $13,333 in punitive fines.

Can’t pay?

Labor at a rate of $15 an hour until difference is paid off? Parks, roads, trash or paint detail... You can live at home and work 20 hours minimum a week paying back society for being a shithead. Make the crime a lesser offense on the record.

Don’t wanna pay or work? Prison at 1 day for every $100 owed, no TV, no library, one 15 minute visit per week, no phone except for attorney, cheap diet meeting nutrition requirements at lowest budget, only water, 1 hour court yard per day. Make offense more severe on record. Prison isn’t supposed to be a place folks want to go.

Imagine how little graffiti, trash on the roads, litter in parks you’d have if doing that?

I’m sure the smirker and her cohorts are shaking in their YSL boots. Unless the majority of people in CA start electing people who are not actively trying to destroy their state and the US at large, get ready for a lot more thefts and smirking.

There is some mathematical formula here....as you reach a no-profit point with a 100-store chain in California....pressure intensifies to raise profit margins, and close a couple of shops.

A year into this formula...you get informed by insurance companies that they won’t insure certain regions.....so you close more stores.

At the five-year point, all of the 100-store operations are shut down.

The bigger issue for the state is that no tax revenue is generated with closed stores. State tax ‘chief’ should be screaming about the trend. Property taxes would be going the same way.

The end of this mess...there has to be some kind of weird recession where stores don’t operate, and you can’t spend money because there’s no place to spend it.

Of course the perps are smirking. They know what country (and what state) they’re in. I’d like to hear a comment from the department store owners and see how “thrilled” they are that only two perps out of 30 we’re caught as they did this in clear view in broad daylight in front of probably 10-20 security cameras.

“crimes like these are not acceptable in his city.”

The nerve of these folks ... where did they think they were? Walmart ... or the dollar store.
We can't have this sort of thing where the “nice” people shop.
Get thee back to Freds. Ye vandals... we'll have none of that here.

There’s a very simple solution.

Police are called and all doors are locked automatically.

Employees and customers are herded into safe rooms.

Arrested? Sounds good on paper, right?

Except the prosecutors will reduce or drop the charges altogether. The perps will suffer no serious repercussions and the store raids will continue.

Someone is behind this.

Phase one flash mob theft
Graffiti
Other petty crime
Property values drop

Ramirez and Jimenez. Doesn’t sound like BLM members. They’ll get jail time.

This mob constitutes a criminal conspiracy and thus can be prosecuted under the RICO act. It adds years to a theft charge.

They should have stolen clothes with prison stripes.

15 is a little generous. Should definitely be no more than minimum as that’s what honest people make IMO. Otherwise yes, that should be done.

—————————————————

To all, I can’t remember the article but a few days ago one of those cities that are so crime ridden by theft—-maybe San Fransicko, did a study and they found a majority of the theft was committed by 300 people. A city of millions being nearly ruined by a relative handful of people.

It’s easy to see why tough justice systems work. You don’t have to jail thousands , just a few bad apples.

“There’s a very simple solution.

The simple solution to all of the snatch & grab shoplifters everywhere is a double-exit system with a door-in only system. One-way doors going into the store... the only way to get out is through one set of doors that enters into a glass-enclosed area that is monitored, 24/7, by security. If you have not paid for your items you do not get OUT of the other set of doors or out of the store. You wait until police or security arrive. I’ve seen a similar set up at an Aldi store, although not for the purpose of security. It’s an easily solved problem yet they can’t seem to figure it out. Maybe because the idiots making the top decisions are too “woke” to do what is necessary.

Now some might say that would be an expensive over-haul and renovation to already existing stores. But... would it be more expensive than what they’re already enduring via ever-increasing crime?

I recall during the Covid-19 “pandemic”... a similar concept was used by Walmart, which had only one way in and one way out, which was monitored constantly by store workers, just to see if folks were wearing masks. If they could do that for a stupid virus, they could also do it to combat shoplifters, as could other stores. Adding the glass enclosure to the one exit only would add that extra layer of security once the crooks knew they couldn’t exit without paying.

A good reason to bring back Chain Gangs.

That’s the sound of the men
They are working on the chain gang

One of the security companies I worked for for 15 years made a an entry portal for banks. It was an attractive fixture and consisted of 2 doors with a fair amount of space between. It was all enclosed with BR glass. BR is bullet resistant. On command both doors could be Mag locked at once. Its referred to as a Mantrap.
Might be worth consideration in retail locations.
