If you weigh a cat and a rabbit, their total weight is 10kg. If you weigh a dog and rabbit, their total weight is 20kg. If you weigh the dog and cat, their total weight is 24kg.

2 x (cat + rabbit) = (dog + rabbit)
dog = (24 - cat)

You’re right as well.
When I first saw the picture, I was ready to solve it algebraically, by converting the animals to abc. However, somebody pointed out that all I had to do was add up all the weights and divide by two, because the animals appear twice.
From there, it was easy to figure the weight of each.
Dog = 27kg
Cat =7 kg
Rabbit = 3kg

Per your question:
You did not use the same cat or rabbit but used the same dog twice.

I think this is correct:
rabbit = 20g - dog
cat = 10g - rabbit
dog = 24g - cat
rabbit = 20g - (24g - cat)
rabbit = 20g - 24g + cat
rabbit = 20g - 24g + 10g - rabbit
2 rabbits = 6g
rabbit = 3g
dog + cat = 24kg
dog + cat + rabbit = 27g
cat = 7g
dog = 17g
