An Ontario, Canada, man whose right to carry a gun in his country was revoked, allegedly swam across a river to the United States, where he stole a handgun from a pawn shop before getting arrested.
FOX 2 Detroit reported that Jeremy James Wallace has been accused of visiting Metro Pawn & Guns in New Haven, Michigan, on Sept. 6, where he asked to see a .22 caliber pistol.
After taking a look at the handgun, he asked to see another gun. Authorities said when the employee went to get the other gun, Wallace grabbed the .22 caliber handgun and two empty magazines before fleeing the store.
Deputies with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, and when they arrived, they saw Wallace run behind the pawn shop and into a wooded area, where he was ultimately arrested.
In the affidavit, which was obtained by the news station, deputies claim Wallace admitted to being in the U.S. illegally, adding that he swam across the U.S.-Canada border along the St. Clair River from Sombra, Ontario.
When he crossed into the U.S., Wallace allegedly told deputies he was wearing a wetsuit, flotation devices and swimming fins.
**SNIP**
Wallace said he planned the heist because he is unable to purchase a firearm in Canada, where he has a firearm offense.
Wallace has been charged with improper entry by an alien, an alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Why wasn’t he just let go like any other illegal?
Sounds like racism to me.
.22 caliber? Good God...only a Canadian!
I've been there...it's pretty cool.
And he was charged with improper entry by an alien! Hahahahaha wrong border, chump!
I know, right? All that trouble for a .22.
Those flower pots are the border. This photo was taken just inside the US...and that white vehicle is an RCMP cop car.
He’ll get less time in the U.S. for stealing than he would if he were caught in Canada with a BB in his pocket.
My grandfather was from Sombra, ON.
The river is narrow with frequent Freighter traffic and a very strong current. He probably drifted several miles downriver while crossing.
For a .22?
.22 caliber is probably the easiest type of ammunition to obtain in Canada.
It is common, and relatively cheap.
Other handgun ammunition is much harder to get.
Why do I feel like its a starving man looking for bread?
But this is obviously a criminal who wouldn’t do this unless they wanted an illegal gun to use for illegal reasons in Canada.
“has been charged with improper entry by an alien,”
Charged? I thought that was a freebie now days.
Plus he was going to be swimming back in to Canada and anything larger could have been a problem ballast wise.
The people in that house must have fun ,LOL
I think that is presumptuous.
Really! He took the .22? Should have at least taken a .45. As the old saying goes, “You might as well hang for a horse as a goat.” He could have just legally bought a high end air pistol and gained the same results. Sheesh!
There are at least several buildings that are literally on the border, including that one in the background.
Also, nearby is a street called "Canusa Street" ("Can" = Canada,"usa" = USA) that *is* the border. I've driven it before. On one side of the street the cars in the driveways have Vermont plates,on the other side they have Quebec plates.
Yea it’s like stealing a Yugo parked next to a Bentle.
