The endangered southern cassowary, a giant flightless bird native to Australia and New Guinea, was spotted by onlookers on Oct. 31 along the shores of Bingil Bay in the Australian state of Queensland, according to the local government.

Beachgoers in Australia last month initially thought it was a turtle or a shark’s dorsal fin in the ocean. But upon closer inspection, they were stunned to see a cassowary – sometimes dubbed "the world’s most dangerous bird" – emerge from the ocean and shake itself off.

The endangered southern cassowary, a giant flightless bird native to Australia and New Guinea, was spotted by onlookers on Oct. 31 along the shores of Bingil Bay in the Australian state of Queensland, according to the local government.

Footage shared to the Queensland Department of Environment shows the cassowary approaching the shore from a far distance out, as well as standing on shore after a long swim. "Cassowaries can swim and will take to the water to cross from one side of a river to the other, or if they feel threatened by domestic dogs or another cassowary through a territorial dispute," Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Officer Stephen Clough said in a statement.

“Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey.”

I had a couple of the “Deep Thoughts” books, but lost then in a move. They were hilarious!

Crow with a machine gun.

"The cassowary can slice open any predator or potential threat with a single swift kick."

Kinda reminds you of Number 3 in that James Bond movie. Remember? "She had her kicks."

Looks like a domestic turkey. They can barely walk after a couple of years. I had a friend that bought a couple of them to raise for fly tying materials. The tom got to be enormous. Like Cornish Cross chickens, meant to be slaughtered at a fairly young age.

But, yeah, wild turkeys fly pretty well.

You'd need a lot of bird seed and a big cage.

Some hawks walk...or stalk...

The first three of the Burke novels were excellent; after that...some good, some not. This one is decent.
