NATIONAL MENUDO MONTH | January
National Day Calendar ^ | January 2, 2024 | Staff

Posted on 01/02/2024 5:26:59 AM PST by Red Badger

Founded in 2018 by National Day Calendar® and Juanita's.

NATIONAL MENUDO MONTH

In January, National Menudo Month recognizes an iconic Mexican soup made with beef tripe and hominy. Mexican families serve this family favorite at gatherings and special celebrations. It is also rumored to be the perfect cure for hangovers. Celebrate by sharing your Menudo tradition with loved ones and creating new family memories.

Quality ingredients, cooking time, and the cook’s special seasoning or sazón make Menudo unique. However, Menudo can be time-consuming to prepare, but the reward is worth waiting! There are also many regional variations. It is typically served with an array of condiments including onion, cilantro, oregano, lime, and either bread or tortillas. Menudo is the perfect dish for bringing the family together.

HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalMenudoMonth

During the month of January celebrate National Menudo Month by enjoying a bowl of Juanita’s Menudo. Other ways to celebrate the month include:

Making your own Menudo recipe.

Hosting a Menudo Month dinner.

Taking Menudo over to a friend or family member to enjoy.

Also, check out Juanita’s website, follow Juanita’s Foods on Facebook and use #NationalMenudoMonth or #Vivelatradicion to share on social media.

NATIONAL MENUDO MONTH HISTORY

Juanita’s founded National Menudo Month to celebrate the cultural icon of Menudo. It also recognizes the importance of preserving and passing down this important Mexican culinary tradition to future generations. In 2018, Juanita’s achieved the Guinness World Record for the largest Menudo soup ever made. It weighed in at an impressive 2,439 pounds. By innovating and sharing their products with the community, Juanita’s is on a mission to celebrate Menudo every day and keep the tradition alive!

About Juanita's Juanita’s has been making authentic Mexican Menudo since 1950 turning every day into an excellent occasion to enjoy a traditional bowl of Menudo with family and friends. Their legacy is their love of all that is Mexican, including our traditions, culture, family, and above all…our food!

The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed National Menudo Month to be observed annually in January beginning in 2018.

I don’t do men, so I will not be celebrating this month, but I thought June was the month to celebrate those who do men. 😋

Whatever it's about, I'm not into it. 😋

Besides that, a whole month of it? No thanks. 😋

Nice ad for Juanita's. That's what FR is for, all right.

No rumor; it's a fact. It's cured many a hangover of mine (in my younger, drinking days, of course). The heat and the spiciness clears your head in no time.

I blame them for all the boy bands that proliferated ever since Menudo first made it big.

I've had decent menudo at a hispanic restaurant in Birmingham, AL and in San Diego, CA. A new restaurant in Pocatello offered menudo on the weekend menu. I ordered it in hopes that it would be par with the prior experiences. It was gross. Nasty, slippery organ meat floating in a broth with nothing else. I struck the place off my list of acceptable places to eat.

Can’t say that I’m a big fan of tripe.

Neither the literal stuff, nor the figurative stuff served up by Big Media.

The heat and the spiciness clears your head in no time.

A green curry with chicken at a Thai restaurant will do that just fine. Crank up the spicy level to the point you need a bath towel to deal with the perspiration if that suits you. I enjoy that level, but my sinuses run freely under those conditions. Lots of napkins required.

I've had entirely enough of the figurative variety. Do Not Want.

As for the literal variety ... de gustibus non disputandum.

Absolutely. I order a bowl of pho (rice noodle soup) with sliced rare steak, briscuit, tendon, tripe, beef balls at the local Thai Paradise restaurant in Pocatello. The Dee Kitchen in Idaho Falls makes a decent bowl of pho as well.
