The Formula One racing franchise has filed for trademarks indicating it could be seeking a race in Chicago, less than a year after NASCAR held its first street race in Grant Park.
F1 applied for variations of the trademark “Formula 1 Chicago Grand Prix” and “Grand Prix Chicago” on Jan. 19, according to U.S. patent office records.
Filing trademarks could be a protective measure. But it could also show the franchise is considering a Chicago race.
There is some indication the city has held initial talks with F1 about a possible Chicago race, downtown Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) says.
“I’m told that F1 typically requires a 10-year minimum deal. And that appears to be non-negotiable. The conversation [with the city] did not get much past that,” Hopkins said.
F1 and Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office didn’t immediately reply to requests for comment.

GTA-Chicago...
“Half the race cars are stripped and up on blocks or car jacked.”
NASCAR had a very good event there last year. No riffraff allowed.
Such a target-rich environment for the local scamps and hooligans. All those spectators. All those spectators' cars ...
This was not what I’d call a “good event” with late starts, cancelled events, low attendance and a shortened race essentially ending under caution.

(Nor do I personally like the course) ... but hey, if you can do F1 in street-circuit style in Vegas?
“shortened race essentially ending under caution.”
It ended in OT which happens quite often.
And dodge the local gunfire?
F1 used to be the bleeding edge of motor sport. Now it’s a shambolic impersonation of its former self, climate-friendly “spec” racing where overtaking (especially at the head of the field) is scarcer than hobbyhorse turds. But the fans still pay to see it (and more importantly, TV networks pay to air it), so there’s no incentive to change.
You would have to be a complete and utter idiot to hold a Formula 1 race in the city / hell hole of Chicago !!! The only thing those morons in that town care about are the Cubs , White Sox , Bulls and Chicago Bears… Indy Car tried to hold races there twice at two different venues both times they left after two or three years . AMA Motorcycle Flat Track tried , same result two years and done.. NASCAR held a race at the Route 66 Speedway Complex and again that lasted about three or four years and that was that .. Now they are holding the NASCAR street race downtown , that will be gone after another year guaranteed … There is a beautiful Speedway Complex called Route 66 Speedway thirty miles to the west of Chicago that is in complete disrepair , no events have been held there since before Covid .. The only Motorsport that has managed to survive / thrive in the Chicago area is NHRA Drag Racing everything else has been a complete disaster !!! Don’t waste your time Formula 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!
I went up to Watkins Glen a couple of times back in the late 70s for the USGP. Now that was a proper racetrack. The race was held the first weekend in Oct. back then, leaves were turning on the trees, beautiful area.
Will they take over an intersection and spin around and around?
In LA they would.
