Well, then, I think we can completely dismiss your opinion.
Yes, quite true. But they usually keep it to themselves. Dumb actor has to air his dirty laundry for attention.
So, the girl will now grow up knowing her dad is a complete idiot that did not love her. Real smart.
Well we know that you’re really into that. Meanwhile there is reality. And in reality there’s LOTS of stories of folks that just never cottoned to the whole “child rearing” thing. The first place you can find these stories is in the lives serial killers. Lots and lots of them started live with parents never clicked and really shouldn’t have had them. Charles Mason, Ted Bundy, Ed Gein. Unwanted kids exist. Luckily not all of them become serial killers, but still, things probably suck pretty hard for the ones that don’t go that path too. I recognized that in myself at an early age, just did not like kids, not even when I was one. Didn’t want em. Had an “accident” happened it probably would have really sucked for everybody. Especially the kid. I at least could have become a workaholic and never gone home.
I’d take a bullet for my kids. But I would kill for my grandkids.
I think it’s good for famous people to talk about it. If you read up on this kind of stuff you’ll find parents that haven’t bonded with their kids tend to feel a lot of guilt. Which probably doesn’t help the bonding process. If it helps one person say “oh, I’m not the only one” then it’s a good thing.
They world is full of scum and monsters.
But, then, there's the rest of us.
- Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner), Field of Dreams
Never said anything about “the rest of you”. I simply said some people don’t connect with their kids. Just some. Not most. Not all. SOME. Read better, stop trying to pick fights.
Not trying to pick a fight. I'm sure you weren't self-identifying with serial killers to explain why you didn't want to have kids.
I guess I didn't want to say I pitied those who didn't get to experience the kind of love, in having children, that claws at your soul.
Yeah, I get that it's out there, but I cannot understand.
First you said: I think we can completely dismiss your opinion.
Which is DEFINITELY trying to pick a fight. And I didn’t self identify with serial killers, once again you’re reading poorly. I said many serial killers were unwanted kids. Which proves that there ARE parents that never connect with their kids.
You don’t have to understand it. Just acknowledge it without being rude. Often times the people this is happening to feel really bad about it. Which probably doesn’t help them. Imagine living with someone whose very existence makes you feel guilty. Adding to that won’t help them bond with their kids.
Yeah, many on X pounded him for this quote. Sounds horrible.
I loved how the Patton movie producers incorporated this quote and others to that iconic opening scene.

Got it.
So it took him a little while to grow into being a father and learn to love his kid. *shrug*. OK. It happens. After a few months he got there. I don’t see why this would be a big deal to anyone so long as he’s a good and loving dad now and for the rest of his time with his daughter.
It wouldn’t. That’s only being human. Sharing it so loudly is beyond the pale for many of us.
It was a good way to introduce Patton and set the tone.
Rarely a day goes by without me praying for God to send her ailments to me. I’m adding to that prayer for forgiveness to my daughter in law, for getting the vax while pregnant.
