Yes, David: the faith once delivered must be defended against computer-generated vegetables...

...but hey, what can we expect from a nut who thinks The Lord Of The Rings is a tool of Satan?

Oh for goodness sakes.....

Our church used Veggie Tales 'Jonah' for their Vacation Bible School......

...and the words & music truly reached those young people.

Why shouldn't we cast our net to these young folks ....with Biblical truisms enfolded in the catchy tunes of Veggie Tales.....

..BEFORE these youngsters get caught up in the
destructive rap & hardcore lyrics of our present day rock n roll.

So did we. Big mistake. It was a long advertisement for the movie. The kids liked the old Veggietales VBS curriculum better.

Even the VeggieTales Bible songs are jazzed and rocked up, thus creating a taste for Christian rock music in the youngest child.

You know a thousand years ago, he would've been a real hit with the "harmony is of the devil crowd."

BTW, "Ward Smythe" was killed in the religion wars...lets just say he was a friend of mine...

I guess he wouldn't care for the love song "His Cheeseburger".

Thank you for putting that song in my head today. Now I need to go watch the Ultimate Silly Songs with Larry.

My only problem with VeggieTales is the relentless abundance of merchandise. I'll sit with my daughter and watch "Madame Blueberry" -

"A thankful heart
is a happy heart.
I'm glad for what I have.
It's an easy way to start."

However, now I can't take my daughter to a Christian Bookstore, because when it's time to go, I have to drag her, kicking and screaming, down from the mountain of VT garbage.

I've always wondered if kids really learn the lesson they're supposed to when they watch this sort of stuff.

VeggieTales founder Phil Vischer says that laughter is a key to teaching, that if you get people laughing, you can teach them anything. Let me ask a question: If this is true, why don't we find anything like it in the Bible? The Bible is the sole authority for faith and practice. Why don't we find Jesus making people laugh before He taught them spiritual truths.

Well, there is your problem right there. Imagine...Jesus laughing!

One of my favorite drawings of Jesus is the "Laughing Jesus" picture....

I disagree with Mr. Vischer. I believe the ultra silly approach to teaching spiritual truths CHEAPENS the things of God. It brings the blessed truth down to the level of worldly cartoons.

Oh sure...I suppose putting 3rd graders into neat little rows and reading Calvin's Institutes to them is far better for them than trying to convey truth through other formats.

I've run out of patience with fools in the Christian church.

I will say, however, that I tend to be suspicious of anything that takes on the character of a "fad" within the Christian church. This would include Veggietales. My perspective on Veggietales isn't the same as Mr. Cloud's, but I generally am wary of anything that becomes a popular sensation within the mediocre church....

Consider me a crank, but I'm wary of the success of "The Prayer of Jabez." Wilkerson has turned that little prayer in the OT into a successful cottage industry for himself (or his publisher has).

I agree. My son can barely sit still for more than 20 minutes at time in church, but he loves Veggie Tales and is definitely interested in the videos and books.. No one else out there, presents moral and biblical issues like they do.

Good report. Wouldn't you just hate to be part of Mr. Cloud's church? Ugh. Tedious, pedantic Christian ministries are a dime a dozen (and even at that, they're overpriced). Whatever interests people -- especially little people -- in the teachings of Jesus is OK by me.

He said to her I'd like a cheeseburger
And I might like a milkshake as well
She said to him, "I can't give you either"
And he said, "Isn't this Burger Bell?"
She said, "Yes it is, but we're closed now,
But we open tomorrow at ten."
He said, "I am extremely hungry,
But I guess I can wait until then."

Cuz you're his cheeseburger
His yummy cheeseburger
He'll wait for you. Ya!
He'll wait for you.
Oh, you are his cheeseburger
His tasty cheeseburger
He'll wait for you
Oh, he will wait for you.

He stayed at the drive-thru till sunrise
He may have dozed off once or twice
When he spotted a billboard for Denny's
Bacon and eggs for half price!

How could he resist such an offer?
He really needed something to munch
Cheeseburger, please do not get angry
He'll eat and be back here for lunch!

Cuz you're his cheeseburger
His precious cheeseburger
Be back for you.
He'll be back for you.
Won't be so long, cheeseburger
Oh, lovely cheeseburger
Be back for you
Oh, he'll be back for you.

Cuz he loves you cheeseburger with all his heart
And there's nothin' gonna tear you two apart
And if the world suddenly ran out of cheese,
He would get down on his hands and knees
To see if someone accidently dropped some cheese in the dirt
And he would wash it off for you
Wipe it off for you
Clean that dirty cheese off just for you!

You are his cheese ... burrrr ... grrrrr!

Any show that features a cucumber singing a love song to a stuffed manatee is all right with me! My kids love these shows, and I have to admit I enjoyed them the first 150 times.
