Here is the guy we FReepers have affectionately have come to call "Bluto." He picked up the name on the live thread this morning as we were watching the citizens of Baghdad go after the Saddam statue. This Bluto guy seemed to be one of those leading the charge. He was a one-man wrecking crew! His spirit and enthusiasm and joy came through on the television!

Bluto is saying to Saddam:
"All your base are belong to us!"
To: Paul Atreides
Oh, Lord, Good one!! PP&M (or Woody) would die to hear that song applying to this--but they can't hear you. They're too involved in their meltdown.

So glad you caught a pic of Bluto.......I loved watching him do his thing this morning and he was such a shock to see up there swinging the sledgehammer. Nice to see this great guy again. What a great day we all had today! Sure hope the rest of the country will fall fast without more loss of Coalition lives tomorrow. Those pockets of resistance in Baghdad are worrisome also. Maybe someone should have gotten Bluto's name and address and put him to work convincing other Iraqis to surrender.

On this morning's live thread, yours were the first two posts to notice our friend:
Illbay (#67):
The guy wielding the sledgehammer is quite burly!
realpatriot (#68):
That big guy with the sledge is doing a NUMBER on the base of SH statue!
To: Cagey
Cagey, as far as I can tell, you were the first one (#73) to give him his name:
One guy looked like Bluto!

Was this the gentleman who had the famous line, "I'm forty-nine years old and until now I have not lived!"

I had CNBC on for a while, and the anchors were really excited about this guy. "Man, he's huge...they should just let him keep at it."

I am so glad we liberated these people. This shows how much they have suffered under the brutal dictatorship of Saddam Hussein.

Was this the gentleman who had the famous line, "I'm forty-nine years old and until now I have not lived!" I don't know. I found the line you quote, though, in a post by dela on another thread:
"I'm 49, but I never lived a single day. Only now will I start living," Yussuf Abed Kazim, a mosque preacher, said as he whacked away, knocking tile and concrete off the pedestal. "That Saddam Hussein is a murderer and a criminal."
There were lots of guys swinging the hammer, so I don't know if this is our "Bluto."

Coincidentally, JRD also plays Gimli, swinging his axe in the LOTR movies.
