Mannix Refuses To Endorse Erickson (Oregon primary aftermath)

Kevin Mannix, who lost in the Republican primary in Oregon's 5th District to businessman Mike Erickson, will not be endorsing his rival - a serious blow to the Republican party's chances of holding the very winnable open seat, currently held by retiring Rep. Darlene Hooley (D-Ore.).

"I will not support him because he's a dishonest person and that's my bottom line," Mannix told the Politico. "I cannot support a dishonest campaign. I need to stick to my principles here, and he'll have to deal with it. That doesn't mean I'm endorsing or supporting the Democrat, but I'm not doing anything for him."

Erickson defeated Mannix by a four-point margin, 49 to 45 percent in what was a bitter primary campaign largely defined by Mannix's allegations that Erickson paid for an ex-girlfriend's abortion nearly a decade ago.

You are not being cynical. The (R) in Oregon has not really meant anything since we had Governor Tom McCall.

Personally, I'd like to take back our education system so real, intelligent - and conscious - individuals can bring *genuine* change.

Please, wish me luck.

Well, I figured it was worth a guess. Usually, these spoiled pantywaists who refuse to support the winners are moderate republicans, while the primary winners are conservatives. Conservatives go out of their way to support moderates, usually, but when the shoe is on the other foot, the moderates are out to lunch.

Well, I guess, Mr. Mannix, if there is “no balm in Gilead”, there is no integrity in OR either!

Wasn’t Gerald R Ford a big admirer of McCall?

Its not a surprise that Mannix refused to endorse Ericson. Ericson lied through his teath during the primary and fought a very nasty and slimy campaign. Sen. Gordon Smith is also refusing to endorse Ericson because he was such a blatant lier.
