Poll: Ron Paul’s Son Could Win U.S. Senate Seat in Kentucky
Washington Independent ^ | 8/18/09 | David Weigel

Rand Paul, the son of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), is touting the first public poll on the GOP primary for next year’s U.S. Senate race. According to the survey, conducted for WHAS11, Paul trails GOP frontrunner Trey Grayson by only 11 points, 37-26. Among “conservative” Republican voters, he only trails by 7 points. And Paul only trails the two potential Democratic nominees by single digits. (Grayson leads both candidates, Attorney General Jack Conway and Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo.)

“Great news for Rand Paul ahead of his scheduled ‘moneybomb’ internet fundraiser on August 20,” writes Joe Arnold in an analysis of the network’s poll. “It paints him as a legitimate candidate and not a fringe candidate.”

I saw him being interviewed on this health care debate...he was reasonably impressive...I just hope he isn’t as loopy as his dad.

I’m seriously considering voting for him. He’s an “outsider” and that’s a good thing in my book.

Still time to support a grassroots candidate if you wish :-)

These numbers are very good considering Rand Paul is virtually unknown and his opponent has been Secretary of State for 5 years.

Rand is not a lunatic, have you ever met him? I encourage you to check out Youtube and learn about him. he is a doctor, family man, small businessman, just the type that’s needed in the senate

Rand Paul seems to have strong ideals, but I think that he is less of an idealist/purist than his father. Rand seems to have political savvy in understanding that the presentation is as important as the message if you really want to get the message across, where his dad just shoots from the hip.

Aside from some minor points, such as the death penalty (Ron Paul opposes it), i'd have to say that there is no substantial differences.

Where the difference exists is in Rand Paul's ability to articulate his positions far better than his father can at this time in his life.

Wasn't always like that. i voted for Ron Paul back in 88 when he was the Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate. At that time, Paul was quicker, sharper, and to the point. If you get a chance, check out the YouTube video of Ron Paul on the Morton Downey Jr. show (a decidedly hostile audience of knuckle draggers), where he was going through critics like a chain saw through balsa wood.

Age has taken it's toll. Much as i like the man, it is probably time for him to retire and spend what time he has left with the wife and family.

i wish nothing but success to Rand Paul's candidacy.

Rand was on Beck last week and Beck acknowledged that Rand differs from his father on a few views. Does anyone know what those might be?

Just watch...I bet the Neocons will help the Dims do whatever they can to destroy him in the race.

Just what I thought: another Neocon who would prefer having a Dim in office.

There’s one question that’s unanswered: can Rand Paul win the general election?

Depends on the national climate and how damaged he emerges out of the primary.

Hopefully Grayson will win we won’t need to find out about Paul.
