Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has a lot going for her at the moment, but a lot to prove, too, if she hopes to build her conservative grassroots support beyond the tea party movement that is fueling her meteoric rise as one of the GOPs top presidential contenders.
Palin has been drawing big crowds during her unending Going Rogue book tour, strategically hitting all of the major red states that will be critical to any 2012 campaign. She has stepped up her whirlwind speaking tour as well, almost exclusively in venues that are packed with adoring fans.
She has been reaching out to the growing tea party armies that have become her political base, most notably this past weekend at a convention in Nashville which by any measure was a huge success. For several days, before and after her appearance, she made all of the nightly news shows that focused on the gathering, its agenda and her role as its star keynote speaker where she delivered a withering attack on President Obama and his failed policies.
No other potential Republican contender has gotten this much media coverage this early. Indeed, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, certainly one of the GOPs major leaders, and Minnesotas Tim Pawlenty are getting nowhere near the same attention. Though Romney was much in demand earlier this year at Republican congressional retreats where he outlined, in considerable detail, what he sees as the partys future agenda and the political path that can return the GOP back to power.(continued)

Why does Palin, a former governor, have "a lot to prove", but Romney, a former governor, is described as a "major leader"?
Indy voters? I thought she was a NASCAR gal!

In my eyes, every writer who puts "but" in a sentence after Sarah Palin's name, only ends up making a "butt" out of him or herself.
Perhaps because Sarah doesn't have a "payoff for pundits" program and didn't bring socialized medicine to Alaska?
# 1. Most Tea Partiers indpenedents, so she alreday has plenty of support amongts indepnedent.
# 2. Fox/Opinion Dynamics poll as Sarah Palin running even with 0bama amongst independents:
“Among the critical segment of independent voters, they are virtually even (Obama at 50 percent; Palin at 49 percent”
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/19/fox-news-poll-palin-going-rogue/
And because Sarah is NOT part of the Mainline, Good ‘ol Boys club of the GOP “elite” [although other FReepers will disagree with me on her support of McCain].
More than 90% of them said the lamestream media just makes stuff up.
That's the way I see it too. Her next big hurdle is the rank and file GOP.
I just got in a argument yesterday over whether or not Romney care is a socialist system. I tried to explain that although Romney care was designed to appear as a free market system it is really a socialist system in disguise. I also said that a free market solution requires freedom of the purchaser and the seller. My point is in mentioning this is that people need to prepare for the good old boys trying to spin Romney as the original free market capitalist. Romney is not for free markets he is for government mandated insurance cartels. If the GOP can not do better than a white Obama then I am sitting out next election.
Agreed! She's going to have the real 'grass roots' support from the Tea Party crowd to get her operation set up. She will, however, but up against the 'establishment' operation of the Mitt Romneys.
I will tell you this, and predict to you this..., based on the 'left over internal aroma' of the 2008 campaign - the Romney Rats are going to FIGHT REAL DIRTY and try to sabotage her early. Watch for more "Savage Like" hits leading up to 2011.
You people are teetering on the precipice of rational thought.
Below, the unbounded, addlepated chasm.
Put simply, get a grip.
Algore has even kindly laid out a welcome blanket of snow for her, so she'll feel right at home. Well, cept for the lack of moose, mountains, ocean.... you get the idea.

Personally, I think that Sarah Palin, if she decides to run, will do much better than pundits believe because her sincerity will connect with voters. Romney and other “Republicans” will say conservative things because they think it will attract them votes, Palin says them because she believes it. After the “all form, no substance” Obama, Palin’s sincerity will be very attractive.

You should have done a Google search, then...
“You can tell a lot about politicians by the people around them, and that is especially true in presidential politics. Romney has already put together a stellar team of economic heavyweights” - Donald Lambro
“Mr. Romney is tough on spending, maybe even better than Reagan, and promises to slay big government with aggressive use of his veto. His sweeping tax cut agenda is the best in the entire Republican field, earning praise from the Cato Institute, the libertarian policy institute.” -Donald Lambro

“Matinee Mitt, running as a veto-wielding, deficit-crushing, tax-cutting conservative and the heir to the Reagan mantle, has become the front-runner in the two earliest and likely pivotal party contests.” - Donald Lambro
Feel the love yet?

She seemed pretty popular with the Daytona 500 people. Why should the Indy mob be any different?
Mr. Reagan 30 years ago successfully rode a similar dissatisfaction with Washington by promising to clean out the swamp there. By the time he ran for president, he had demonstrated a firm enough grasp of the issues of the day to convince voters he could do a better job than the hapless Jimmy Carter.
