Sarah Palin's bad fishing advice for the GOP (She's scaring the girlie-men, again!)
The Washington Post's Post Partisan ^ | May 13, 2010 | Jonathan Capehart

Way back when, I would go fishing with my (former) stepfather. Don't get me started on the agony of baiting the hook. And I possessed no ability to cast the line far enough without falling out of the tiny bass boat or hitting the other folks on board. So, I would just drop my hook off the side and hope the fish would find it. Besides, why else would we be in that spot if there weren't fish there in the first place? That was my logic. And it was pretty dumb. Which leads me to Sarah Palin.

The best-selling author, sought-after speaker, popular political commentator and former Alaska governor told an audience in Rosemount, Ill., yesterday that Republican candidates shouldn't bother to move to the center to attract voters. Instead, they should wait for the electorate to come to them.

“Some Republicans have evidently thought that they have to kind of move to the left of the center or move to the middle in order to win,” she said. Rejecting that bit of conventional wisdom, Palin offered, “You win by letting the middle move to you.” She added, “You win by letting the middle of the road know that your ideas -- based on time-tested truths -- are the right ones for the country.”(continued)

Governor Sarah Palin has caught more fish than you'd see if you went to three dozen aquariums, putz! I can't wait for the wailing and gnashing of teeth in November.

She’s right. The democrats certainly did not moderate their message after losing in ‘04. Conservatives need to take their vision and belief about what America should and can be and persuade people to that point of view.

Yep, you catch more fish by throwing out a net and hauling the lot into your boat.

Welcome Back, Dad

I've been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we'd never see his like again because he was one of a kind. I was wrong! Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she. And what a she! This was Ronald Reagan at his best -- the same Ronald Reagan who made the address known now solely as "The Speech," which during the Goldwater campaign set the tone and the agenda for the rebirth of the traditional conservative movement that later sent him to the White House for eight years and revived the moribund GOP. Welcome back, Dad, even if you're wearing a dress and bearing children this time around.

~Michael Reagan, radio personality & son of President Ronald Reagan

That or a stick of TNT a la Crocodile Dundee.

I wonder how many fish that hook will attract.

This guy is an idiot. A hook isn't meant to attract fish.

Palin is recovering the Reagan strategy: speak great ideas to people in terms they appreciate, and they will hear the message. Reagan never moved to the "center" to get reagan democrats. She is absolutely right about this, although it is unclear which candidates have the sense to enact it as prescribed.

What is mind boggling to me is that this person-of-questionable-intelligence gets paid(?) to write this.

I know that. I watch Fox ‘n Friends and switch back and forth to Imus. I watch the Asian markets overnight when I have trouble sleeping.

I knew a guy (back in young and stupid days) that would coat an m80 with BB encrusted wax, shine a light on a darkened pond, wait a few and then light the fuse an throw it in.

Sticks of TNT were hard to come by.

yep. I never knew that so many people wanted to walk in the middle of the road. Isn't that a good way to get run over?

She's right: Keep the message strongly conservative, don't compromise, and the electorate will FIND you.

Of course she’s right, but it’s not exactly a breakthrough. It’s how most every election anytime, anywhere has been won.
