Palin helping RNC raise money
CNN's Political Ticker ^ | August 6, 2010 | Peter Hamby, CNN Political Producer

Posted on 08/06/2010 3:14:27 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In a surprising move given her reputation as a political outsider, Sarah Palin is helping the Republican National Committee raise money ahead of November's elections.

Palin has attached her name to a letter and survey being mailed to RNC donors soliciting contributions for the committee's Victory 2010 program, a nationwide get-out-the-vote effort.

"Millions of Americans are expressing their frustration with the state of our government. I join them and seek to return our country to greatness," reads the letter, obtained by CNN Friday.

"To accomplish this, working within our two party system, I join the RNC - the political home for "Commonsense Conservatives" who want to re-take governance - and I ask you to join me," the former Republican vice presidential nominee's letter continues. "Let's bring our new brand of Reagan conservatism to our party and the country!"

Having the Palin stamp of approval may help the RNC recover some of its standing among conservatives who have been troubled by chairman Michael Steele's handling of the committee. And her unquestioned star power is certain to help the RNC in its ambitious quest to raise a total of $107 million in 2010.

But her helping hand could be seen as an effort to mend fences with party insiders as she ponders a possible presidential bid in 2012.

She's a former Republican Governor and the current frontrunner for the presidential nomination in 2012. What did they expect her to do, a whistle-stop tour with Howard Dean and Arrianna Huffington?

I don't agree with this. Those RNC surveys are annoying. How many times have you scribbled in what you thought and returned it back to them? Now's not the time to send this crap when people are boiling mad at BOTH parties. The Republicans are not doing anything to stop Obama. Remember that the RNC is giving money to scumbags like Snowe and Collins who voted to confirm Kagan.

Yes, Palin is a Republican and if she runs, it should be as a Republican and not a 3rd-party candidate. But she shouldn't help the RNC.

It’s called paying one’s dues — something required in order to have RNC support later.

I do wonder what concessions she demanded for this. Most “establishment” types hate her, so this must have been very humiliating for them. An interesting strategy. And people think she is dumb. She’s playing a big game.

A lot of good Generals have gotten mud on their jackets too but did their duty none the less, and no matter who gave the orders to go here and there.

The RNC is in need of funds anyway .. considering many donors now prefer to donate to candidates of their choice or locally.

It can reap big dividends ,, for Sarah and the party. I don’t see it as making her any worse for wear near or long term.

Besides it keeps her away from that nutty new neighbor..

Lookie at CNN trying so hard to make her look bad to her most ardent supporters.

We aren’t going to get rid of all of the RINOs immediately. We should work on flushing as many dems as possible, then turn our attention to cleaning out the Republican refuse once we have firm control of the party.

I don’t see her fundraising as a bad thing. Do we want to take back congress this year or not? Third parties don’t work in this country. The democrats are now the communist party, so our only hope is the GOP. We need to infiltrate it and take it over as conservatives, or we will be under the Marxist bootheel from here on in.

Dear Republican (Name)

Millions of Americans are expressing their frustration with the state of our government. I join them and seek to return our country to greatness. To accomplish this, working within our two party system, I join the RNC – the political home for "Commonsense Conservatives" who want to re-take governance – and I ask you to join me. Let's bring our new brand of Reagan conservatism to our party and the country!

And we must work together because Washington is broken, and we need to clean house.

If you think that America can afford two more years of Obama/Pelosi/Reid with total control then stop reading now.

But, if you are ready to take back our country for free markets and limited government, then join me today by contributing to Victory 2010.

Please help today to stop America from going over the cliff with reckless, unsustainable debt and know that your gift makes a triple impact by helping to elect conservative Members of the House and Senate as well as a majority of new Republican Governors in up to 37 states.

A rare window of opportunity to take back our country is before us, but nothing will get fixed if good Americans stay on the sidelines in xstatex or think others will step up to the plate in your place.

If you are tired of the irresponsible and anti-free market agenda of Nancy Pelosi and you want to take the gavel away from her by winning 39 seats in the U.S. House …

…If you want to stop Harry Reid's ability to ram through dangerous big government legislation and help elect at least 10 new conservative Senators to win a Republican Majority …

… And if you agree the 37 Governor's races are the hope for our Party's future to develop a new crop of conservative executives and turn crucial blue states red this year….

… Then I ask you to make an investment of 25 cents in every one of the 435 House, 36 Senate, and 37 Governor's races for a total of $127 to help provide our candidates with the resources they need to win in November..

Of course, whatever you send is greatly appreciated.

None of us can clean up Washington on our own. But, together we can unite millions of American's who share your values.

The American Dream is in danger like never before. I've been criss-crossing the nation for the last year and a half, and I know that by using Victory 2010 to pull together and organize our efforts we can win in November!

This is the most pivotal election of our lifetimes and we cannot afford to have Americans like you on the sidelines. If that happens, we will surely lose.

This economy is heading dangerously in the wrong direction towards insolvency. We all know America can't go on running deficits like this.

What we must do is obvious to those who live in the real world:

>> Washington must tighten its belt and spend less than it takes in.

>> The private sector must be unleashed to create jobs for the world's best workers.

You and I both know that with two more years of control in Washington, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will lead America into a debt crisis like the financial mess we see unfolding in Greece.

Unless we stop them.

The power of this nation rests in the hands of everyday Americans like you.

So, can we count on your help?

Victory 2010 is the Republican National Committee's state by state campaign effort to elect GOP candidates at all levels of the ballot. It's the only national Republican Party organization charged with this duty.

Your single gift of 25 cents for the each of the 435 House, 36 Senate, and 37 Governor's races for a total of $127 will take the gavels away from Pelosi and Reid and help elect strong conservatives who believe in smaller government, lower taxes, and fiscal responsibility.

A kick-off investment of $25.50 (5 cents per race), $50.80 (10 cents per race), $101.60 (20 cents per race) or $127 (25 cents per race) in Victory 2010 will fund targeted TV and radio ads, mailings, internet outreach to voters across America, and get "boots on the ground" in every state to help get out the vote.

If giving through the web is more convenient, please go to www.GOP.com/Victory2010 .

If we are to stop the Democrats' march to the left – and halt President Obama's big government/anti-free market agenda – Victory 2010 needs your help.

Please join me in working to make a difference for our great nation and keep the American dream alive for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Sarah Palin

- - - - - - -

The letter comes with a special return envelope that identifies you're returning your donation because of Sarah. She's sure building up good will and broadening her base!

From a purely emotional standpoint, I agree, but from a logical standpoint I see that she has no choice. To do otherwise would be a literal declaration of war against the very party under whose banner she will be running for president. Damned if you do; damned if you don’t.

Being that the RNC has been on the wrong side of just about every primary election campaign so far, it doesn't surprise me that the one who anointed one of the most progressive Republicans is now signing onto their campaign mail. What was the Tea Party thing all about? I thought it was to say enough's enough with the establishment in both parties. I guess Palin was just along for the attention. Another loss of cool points in my book.

There's a high-level political chess match going on here. Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie and the good ol' boys have formed a fundraising operation outside the RNC to suck up money for the establishment and force Steele out.

Sarah Palin is coming to the RNC's aid. The RNC needs money for poll-watching, etc. I'm sure Palin is collecting a big chit for this. Michael Steele was on Hannity's radio show yesterday and Hannity was talking about something Sarah said in her TV interview...Steele wouldn't even let Hannity finish his comment. He interrupted and started praising her.

This game is for keeps.

This group that Rove and Gillespie are forming looks like another damn political party:
"This new Republican-friendly group, on the other hand, appears to be an umbrella group for five separate right-leaning organizations: American Crossroads (voter mobilization); American Action Network (polling and advertising); American Action Forum (policy); Resurgent Republic (polling); and the Republican State Leadership Committee (an association representing state officers such as secretaries of state)."

You're exactly right. However, I blame Bush, McCain, the RNC, et al for our having Obama. To this day I cringe everytime I hear, "Even Bush was for bailing out...." or, "Even McCain is for....." or, "Republicans spent like drunken sailors under Bush...." Bush, McCain, and the establishment Republicans (such as those the RNC continually support) have ruined all of our moral arguments due to the way they behaved - and still would behave if it weren't for the Tea Parties. Now Palin, who was once somebody I totally respected, has sold out to McCain and the RNC.

McPalin waited until Hoffman had the momentum in the final heat of the campaign to endorse him. And that is probably what put 0wens over the top. Nothing brings Democrats out to vote like McPalin.

If she really wanted to help, she would have endorsed Hoffman 6 months earlier and then kept her head down, her mouth closed, and her nose out of the race.

I don’t think it looks like a separate party. More like a branch to help and strengthen the GOP, with a goal to take power from the RNC which has failed miserably in several contests, although it’s worked successfully without fanfare behind the scenes.

The RNC needs a new board. Also, people need to remember that national parties have the duty to endorse and support incumbents, and until that changes, a lot of us are always going to be unhappy.

I wish we could go back in time and change things, but what’s done is done. The best thing we can do is to get rid of career politicians in the GOP and move on. If we keep beating ourselves with what Republicans did in the past we will continue to have rat majorities everywhere. Let’s first retake Congress, state Legislatures, etc. The biggest threat is continued rat dominance.

We must continue to argue about what has happened, so that we don’t do it again. But we must be in a position to affect change.

From the letter, I understand it is meant to raise money to support Republican candidates at all levels, including state Legislature and other local offices. This, to me, is important. Instead of just focusing on a top-down approach, we must also focus on bottom-up.

RUSH: Folks, we need to take the Republican Party back. The Democrat Party was co-opted, has been co-opted by a bunch of communists, socialist, fascists, what have you from the sixties and the seventies and that's what we're up against now. We have allowed our party to be co-opted by a slate of Ivy League elitists and country club, blue-blood Republicans who want to be thought of as enlightened and compassionate and so forth, they want to be thought of as liberal light, Democrat light. We've talked about what the divisions in the Republican Party are all about. It's about the social issues, the Republicans don't like the pro-lifers being in the party, blah, blah, blah, blah. Now, if we just leave the Republican Party where it is, go third party, we're ceding defeat. The Electoral College alone, the Electoral College discriminates against third party like you can't believe. It's not the way to go. I realize a lot of you are going to be mad at me, but history repeats itself. But the one thing that you who have been with me for 21 years know is that I have never been anything other but a mainstream down the line rock solid bulwark conservative because that's who I am. And I know that the Republican Party has won big time when it has been as well.

I know that a third party isn't going to win diddly-squat. But, I am prepared for the next two to four years for some of you out there to hate me and despise me because of this. Because I'm well aware of the anti-Washington sentiment that exists and the desire to just throw the whole thing into the Potomac River and rebuild it. It does have to be rebuilt but you're never going to throw it all in the Potomac River. And if you discount the role of Barack Obama in ginning up all this passion that's leading to the protests, if you want to try to equate the Republican Party to what this radical bunch of leftists is doing, you're going to have a tough time convincing me that there's any similarity.
