2012 poll shows Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin neck and neck
The Boston Herald ^ | August 14, 2010 | Hillary Chabot

Posted on 08/13/2010 9:39:29 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney - believed by many political observers to be a clear GOP front-runner in the 2012 presidential race - is virtually in a dead heat with contender Sarah Palin, according to a new CNN poll.

The poll shows Romney only 3 percentage points in front of former Alaska Gov. Palin, within the margin of error.

“It’s a pretty open contest, and that’s interesting in and of itself,” said Suffolk University political professor John C. Berg. “It means the primary contest will be tighter.”

Only months from the unofficial start of the 2012 presidential campaign, Romney has shown strong fund-raising and was tapped as the front-runner at the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this year.

But Berg said that the close poll figures could signal a tough fight between Republicans during the primary.

“There’s still the desire in both parties to try to get it locked up early . . . so they can focus on attacking the other party - but that’s a ways away,” Berg said.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll of 1,009 adults nationwide was conducted between Aug. 6 and Aug. 10.

I don’t want to see Mitt on the ticket. DeMint, Palin, Christie, Ryan...

Mitt’s not a leader. He’s very cautious, and avoids fights with everyone. He’d be a good Sec of Treasury.

I really can’t imagine the Mittster is anywhere near Palin. If anything, his involvement with that debacle of MAssachusetts “HealthCare” clearly makes him the wrong man at the wrong time. Although, come to think of it, those that WANT the successful implementation of this national mess...may want to see him in the White House.

Dayum! We're certainly on the same page. I agree with your everyword, but I'll only quote the following:

The are some who step on the stage of history that are just something apart. Sarah is one of those individuals and there is a power to her that I don’t think many have even come close to realizing.

Yes, and I see that too!

I’m certainly with you. I don’t want to settle. I want to settle a score.

Oh, you betcha! There's a heck of a score that must be settled!

Just like in the 2008 election, the liberal news media is trying its best to select the GOP candidates. They succeeded then, by promoting Mcain and pushing the cross voting by Dims in the early primaries, as they knew he was the weakest opponent for Obama. Huckaby helped the Dims by staying in the race long enough to eliminate McCain’s opponents who would have better represented the right-of-center voters.

Exactly. And that was followed by the merciless attacks
of Team Romney for Romney, Soros, and Obama.

Fact: The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++4 to 10 pts. in some polls, days prior to the election.
So rather than helping the GOP, Romney and
TeamROMNEY decided …… to attack Gov. Palin to throw Election2008.

"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 (2008, weeks before the election) Early Show appearance."

David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."

David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician… I will support him without qualm."

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Kathleen Parker: "[I]t is increasingly clear that Palin is a problem." "Parker ... says something publicly that many of us have thought privately
but lacked the courage to say out loud - Palin should step down:"

"Kathleen Parker: After Interviews, Palin Should Bow Out"

Kathleen Parker: "Romney would bring more than squeaky clean qualifications
and youthful good looks to the ticket.
Romney would seem a logical choice."

"Parker: Romney raised bar on freedoms"
Kathleen Parker: "If Kennedy's speech was an important landmark in American political history,
Romney's was surpassing. With heartfelt humility and poetic eloquence,
he tracked the nation's struggle with and for freedom."

Staggering bigotry of Kathleen Parker - UPDATED"

There is now way Mittens can compete with Sarah. Once Sarah get on the ground in Iowa and NH it all over. These to states are retail politics par none.

The little school teacher incident speaks volumes when you look at it like this.

The other thing is there is now way Mittens could pull off the interview from last nite with out the Judged laughing his ass off.

Thanks to both of you.

I have been wanting to expose Scott Conroy and the obvious agenda behind his fawning post about the “formidable” Huckabee at RealClearPolitics yesterday.

The Establishment would have had to come up with someone who could credibly challenge Sarah Palin for the GOP nomination OR she would have had to remove herself from the picture in some way, shape or form. There is NO chance that the former will occur (they have no one, as is patently obvious) and precious little chance that the latter will happen. (She is far too much a patriot NOT to run and every indication thus far suggests that she will do her duty.)

The MSM and the GOP Establishment may as well get ready. January 20, 2013 is right around the corner. Black crepe will be the order of the day on K Street.

Love that pic.

I’ve been saying for a year now, it will be Palin or Romney. That’s not a rocket scientist pick, that is an easy pick.

With Mitt, there is no there, there. Sorry, but he has no core values. His fluctuate.

He’s likely a very nice family man and successful businessman, but he’s just a typical go-along-to-get-along politician. Washinton DC is full of them: they’re called fossil incumbents.

Riply,

Been quite a while since I posted a thread about mormonism.

I do, however, jump on threads to clarify each time a
mormon proselytizer attempts to hide what they believe, or pass mormonism off as Christianity.

Still, if RINOmney is the RINOminee, I’ll be fishing that day.

best,
