Poll Reveals Poorer And Less Educated Voters Support Sarah Palin, Wealthier Voters Prefer Romney

A new Gallup poll reveals that voters who identify as more conservative, do not have college degrees and who make less than $24,000 annually are more likely to support former Alaska governor Sarah Palin over Mitt Romney for president in 2012. Romney, on the other hand, has evidently fared better with voters who describe themselves as “liberals to moderate”, have received degrees of higher learning and who make at least $90,000 a year.

The split drives home the challenges facing any would-be GOP candidate: Catering to the party’s base without completely alienating those on the fence, and appealing to voters across a wide spectrum without pitting disparate factions within the Republican party against one another.

Romney recently launched an exploratory committee and a dazzlingly fresh new logo in advance of a possible presidential run, but, so far, neither he nor Palin have definitely announced intent to run in 2012. Nor, for that matter, has Mike Huckabee, despite rumors that Fox News would prefer that Huckabee, who hosts his own show on the network, come to a decision sooner rather than later.

Why this (alleged) pressure to decide? Just take a look at the numbers:

When it comes to ideology, Gallup found that self-described conservatives favored ex-Arkansas governor Huckabee over Romney and Palin and found double-digit support among all income levels. Huckabee did the best among people earning $24,000 to $59,000 (22%).

LLS, I can’t claim THAT IQ, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to appreciate the savvy, intelligence, courage and kindness of Sarah Palin. I’m with her all the way. Bob

I see socialist-lite Huckster as the spoiler, and the guy who could suck up enough conservative primary votes to allow Milt to walk down the red carpet. He gave us McCain last time, as enough chose him over Thompson, killing off Fred early. A tragedy. Bob

I bet Palin's IQ is a whole helluva lot higher than 100. Same with Todd.

Just a hunch.

Amen brother... IQ means little... I know how to take tests. This article just riled me up and I probably should never have posted that in the first place. Now I am from Mississippi and some North of the Mason Dixon might say my neck is red... but it is Red, White and Blue. I want this once great nation to once again become the GREATEST NATION. I agree... Sarah is the real deal.

What was arrogant about my post? I admittedly don’t care for her, but last I knew that wasn’t arrogant.

I come in peace, Melas!

My guess is that people resent being pigeonholed into categories by virtue of income and education level. They're flawed indicators of people, and certainly flawed indicators of peoples' intelligence. We all know that empirically, can we agree?

Palin waitressed her way through a ho-hum college or two. We can all think of many productive, respected people in our spheres who essentially did the same. What did Romney do? How about Bush? Or Obama? Or Condi Rice? Theirs were whole different college worlds from the experience of people in my sphere.

I know a smart person when I see one. Palin would be a great president, if we're lucky enough to have her. Romney would be a destructive force to America, pushing it more toward statism. Unlike Obama or whatever other idiot liberal gets the nomination, Romney would also completely demoralize voters, make them cynical, and make any raising the Republican banner as the one for getting monkey government off our backs -- the banner of "vote here if you want limited government" -- a joke. Hence the continued and hastened decay of the Union.

Income is in part an indicator of one's desire for material things, and another in part an indicator of one's desire to excel. People are all different, and driving desire is separate from intelligence. The individuals reflected in those numbers who seem to denigrate Palin, are ... well, me and a lot of folks I know. You might understand if I smelled a whiff of arrogance about you.

There’s a few of us with some few years of higher education who would crawl over broken glass to vote for this patriotic American!

First of all, I like bologna and this poll is not bologna! Given a choice between Hussein and Romney, I'll write in Sarah Palin! Never again will I hold my nose and vote RINO and voting is way too important to just stay home.

Let’s be honest. Does anyone think that Romney could actually win the nomination?

I went into 2008 with the same feeling about McCain.

Romney is dangerous bad news.

As for an argument up thread that the field lacks any really interesting candidates yet ... Hello?

Pioneers a new communication front in social media, draws not hundreds, not thousands, but tens of thousands to political gatherings -- as in, POLITICS, hello????? Has a past track record demonstrating being one who certainly knows how to kick ass and take names, such as seeing corrupt Republicans put in jail. Has worked with and played hardball with executives of major oil producers, and governmed that had to deal with Russia and Canada, international borders, as a way of living. Also has experienced success in private enterprise and business.

Not to mention that it's packaged in an unusually attractive woman -- if Sarah Palin wore contacts instead of glasses, all hell would break loose. And in case you hadn't noticed or in case your are perception impaired, Palin is definitely smarter than the average bear when it comes to intelligence. Or hadn't you noticed?

No exciting candidates so far ... *rolls eyes* She's right in front of your nose, buddy!

Addendeum to above — AND she calls the push behind the “global warming” hoax “snakeoil science.” That ALONE puts her in the RIGHT PLACE at the RIGHT TIME.

God help the Republicans if they nominate anyone BUT Palin.

I, for one, categorically refuse to support another “McCain.” And the “would you rather have for more years” crowd can $—t in their hat and pull it over their ears.

Country club Republicans feel comfortable with one of their own bluebloods running things.

This is somehow shocking?

Amen! I hope you know that when I say "ho-hum college," I mean in "ho hum" in the eyes of the elitists.

If I were you, I'd be proud to have such a daughter. You did a good job raising her, obviously. My hat's off to you.
