Krauthammer calls Palin tour 'eccentric,' doubts she'll run in 2012

With a lot of media attention, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin visited the nation’s capital over the weekend to kick off a bus tour, in which she will visit various national landmarks. But some see the trip as a campaign stunt for a possible 2012 presidential campaign.

On Monday’s “Special Report,” syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer offered his thoughts on the bus tour, but admitted he wasn’t clear on what was motivating it.

“I don’t know – it’s more eccentric than usual, this event,” Krauthammer said. “She says she is going around to highlight ‘the foundation of the country.’ I don’t want to be picky but generally we say the founding of the country. I know I’ll get e-mail on that.”

Regardless of the motivation for the tour, Krauthammer suggested it would keep Palin’s brand fresh. He also noted that it would be problematic if both Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann and Palin ran for president, citing an unscientific Fox News poll.

“But does the country need reminding about the Constitution and the Gettysburg — Concord, which is not in New Hampshire, it’s in Massachusetts? I’m not sure what she is doing except to say – I’m with Juan [Williams]. I think if she is still here with Fox, she is not running. She is not running. What I think she is doing to trying to keep the brand vibrant. During the next 18 months when all the attention will be to other candidates, and she showed what she can do. At Rolling Thunder she came, she saw, she sucked all the oxygen out of the room. There is nobody who can do that as she can. But as we saw in the poll, it looks as if she and Bachmann would be splitting this constituency that they have. And Bachmann, you know, this is unscientific poll but she clearly can represent that position and draw as Palin does, equally well.”

Later during segment, Krauthammer clarified his remarks, saying he confused a Palin gaffe with a Bachmann gaffe.

“Let me just say, it was Bachmann who slipped up on Concord, not Palin,” Krauthammer said. “I didn’t mean to imply otherwise. But Bachmann is a stronger and more organized candidate for that constituency.”

I hate to be picky on CK, but I think her use of the word ‘foundation’ was right on in that it highlights getting back to our ‘foundation’... not our ‘founding’. The founding happened and created the foundation we stand on. The DU and many RINOS disdain that foundation, although they will concede the facts of our founding.

Krauthammer and Will need to shut their pieholes. Here’s what George failed to notice before he started running off at the mouth on Sunday...

Palin was ready from Day 1, and it seems implausible that someone as connected as George Will doesn’t know that.

Here is wisdom: George et al don’t need the blessing of conservatives to maintain their positions, they need only to appeal to the hand that feeds them- The MSM.

If guys like Krauthammer said anything good about Palin their career as a pundit would come to a screeching halt. He’s one of the “safe” commentators who can be counted on to say witty conservative-sounding things while steadfastly upholding the Ruling Class inside-the-beltway elites.

The whole political apparatus from all of the networks and writers to pundits like the Fox News All-star know fully well that Sarah is preparing to run but they have to deny it. WHY? because: If a political novice nationally like Sarah comes on the scene in 3 shorts years and rips up the standard playbook for running for office that has been in place for over 40 years of modern politics and not only run but wins (they know that she can, that’s why they are oppose to her so strongly) then they are irrelevant, their advice is meaningless, and some dumb woman in their eyes not from a Ivy League school that didn’t joined their distinguish clique makes them look like they don’t know what they are talking about and embarrasses and humilate them publicly

Of primary concern to me is the Country. I see Gov. Palin as our best chance to attempt to correct all the damage which has been done (under this administration).

On a secondary note, if she does declare, what a pleasure it will be to see Krauthammer 100% wrong. Then if she wins the nomination and wins the Presidency, the entire media establishment will be discredited.

Talk about your win win scenarios!

As much as I like Sarah, I think her quitting as governor would be used against her successfully. It would be hard for her to overcome the high unfavourable rating she already has.

Well, flame away if you'd like but I think he makes a good point. Didn't Fox can Huckabee and Santorum both for being "maybes?" And isn't Sarah Palin still a contributor?
So either they're playing favorites or Fox knows something everybody else doesn't.

I agree. I believe [for her purposes and intent] FOUNDATION is exactly the right word.
Unlike Prez AWOL, this woman says what she means and means what she says.
