Palin and a real presidential run
The Los Angeles Times ^ | September 2, 2011 | Robin Abcarian

Des Moines-With her youthful wardrobe — platform sandals, polka-dotted toenails and skinny, low-cut jeans — Sarah Palin does not look like the buttoned-up, middle-aged Republican presidential contenders who've been traipsing around New Hampshire and Iowa for weeks. But here she is, just like them, sweeping into both states this weekend to give speeches on her way to, well, what?

If she is to run for president, she said last month, she will have to decide by the end of September.

Many Republicans with ample presidential campaign experience say her window is closing fast. Polls suggest that her indecisiveness may have turned off many Republican voters who might have been more open to her before Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann got in the race.

That could change, though, if Palin decides to run.

"She obviously has total name identification, and still has a net positive image with the Republican base, the people who vote in caucuses and primaries," said Charlie Black, a veteran Washington lobbyist who served as Sen. John McCain's chief advisor in the 2008 presidential campaign. "She has proven her ability to raise money. The necessary tools are there."

Last month at the Iowa State Fair, Palin said any campaign of hers would be "very grass-roots."(continued)

48 million voted for McCain/Palin in 2008. Assuming none of them votes for Obama this time around and donates 10-20 dollars to Gov. Palin’s campaign, we arrive close to 1 B number you mentioned. That’s what needs to be done - to convince them that their country’s future is worth 20 bucks! Speaking of myself, I would stay on bread and water, if she runs, and will send the surplus to the campaign.

Seriously, that’s just plain stupid.

Or did you forget the sarcasm tags?

I agree with you about grass-root enthusiasm. But when the attacks begin it will be withering and without the filter of the media, Sarah Palin will need a heap of dough to counter attack this and speak directly to the voters. We all know how she got mauled by Katie Couric and Co the last time around. The media will cohere around Obama and will circle the wagons to protect their guy at any costs.

Even before she get started we’ve seen the barrage of attacks on the Tea Party. To say her support is “constant, deep, and wide” is to blithely ignore the reality of politics once the campaign gets started. Independents will start to peel of like fresh paint on wood.

Thus, her currently "strategery" seems pretty sound to me.

Me too. They dance to her tune.

No, quite the opposite.

Reagan had to deal with the same difficulties, he overcame those difficulties by having the same "Never say die" attitude that Sarah has, talking over the media's head, and the leaning on the grass-roots.

The grass-roots will go into overtime to counter the media, to talk to the doubters, to get the truth out, to win the game.

They are the "ace-in-the-hole".

This is why the Left-wing fears her.

This is why the GOP elite fear her.

Both groups no that once she commits, they can't stop the tidal wave of excitement and resulting support she will get from unpaid volunteers, much the same as Reagan had on his side.

They also know they won't be able to control her because she has no loyalties to any Party machine. Her loyalties are to the American People, and to conservative constitutional limited government. Perry especially, can not lay claim to the same characteristics or history, Sarah can.

Perry comes nowhere near in his ability to excite the base, neither does Cain or Bachmann. Myth doesn't even register.

There have been elections in this nation that no matter how much money a candidate collected could not buy the election.

Obama is an empty suit. Millions are unemployed and the First Lady goes on expensive vacations.

So, he has big bucks. So what!

[But before that I want to know whether she could raise the $1B dough and win.]

I don’t think she has to raise as much as the others. I bet half the country doesn’t know who Perry or Romney are - everyone knows who Sarah is (love her or hate her). The Twitter/facebook army she has is a huge advantage this time around. And Palin plays te media like lapdogs. And remember how much Romney was spending per vote in Iowa in 2008? It was obscene and didn’t do squat.
I think Sarah has different rules.

A Chistian woman would make the ego-sacrifice to protect her family unless she was sure she was called.

Fortunately for herself and for our Country, Palin is not a Chistian, but a Christian.

It's why she spoke of running "with a servant's heart."

Let's see Perry EVER talk like that without choking on his own words!

Cheers!

HA, WTH, she has been campaigning full tilt for some time, she has gotten publicity that other wannabe’s would have paid several tens of millions $ for, and she has not been out one red cent.

She appeared to speak at a wind swept dusty gravel pit in the middle of the Nevada desert. Wife, I, and many thousands of others drove for hours to see and hear her there that day. The event was for days on every news venue all over the world, and she never expended one red cent.

So, Zero's billion $ won't mean spit if Sarah Palin decides to run.

establishment Conservatives

That's an oxymoron. Conservatives, by definition (in today's world), are rebels against the status quo.

We have a strong and abiding connection to this nation's original right-wing extremists - the Founding Fathers.

Same reaction. I was choking back tears at the end.

I 'got something in my eye' near the end of the movie, and my wife was openly shedding tears when the lights came up. So were a lot of other folks.

Don't worry about the money. Her supporters will give her all she needs. Sarah doesn't need money to buy votes, like Barry does.

If ticket sales for The Undefeated are your crystal ball for predicting Sarah Palin’s potential to get votes, I’d caution you against quitting your day job to become a political analyst.
