Obama May Not Run For A Second Term
Politicology ^ | September 16, 2011 | Noah Rothman

With President Obama’s political troubles mounting, some analysts are suggesting that President Obama’s Democratic backers may approach him in the very near future and ask him, politely, to forget that second term.

“I’m warning my clients — ‘Don’t run in 2012.” The Hill quotes one unnamed Democratic strategist today, voicing concerns about Obama’s coattails or lack thereof next year.

Wall Street Journal’s John Fund Says Obama’s Backers Are Backing Off:

(VIDEO AT LINK)

“The odds of me being reelected are much higher than the odds of me being elected in the first place,” Obama told a group of Washington D.C. fundraisers on Thursday night. That was meant to reassure Democratic donors rather than scare the bejeezus out of them. He may have accomplished the latter.

Obama has said on numerous occasions that he is perfectly content with serving a single term in the White House. Obama told NBC News in June that there are moments “where I say that one term is enough.” He famously declared in 2009 that if he did not have the economy turned around in three years that his presidency would be a “one term proposition.”

Now rumors emanating from unnamed White House sources are suggesting that the president’ political failures have left Obama on the verge of clinical depression. A Gawker article from September 12 suggested that Obama “has seemed increasingly listless to associates.”

There will be no primary strategy against the president. The money is on his side and the Democratic Party’s black voters would revolt and fracture the party, dooming their chances in 2012. There is a scenario where Obama would demurely reject another run at the presidency… A committee requesting he leave, promising a Supreme Court seat or similar high profile position and replacing him at the top of the ticket with one other popular Democratic politician.

Buyer’s remorse among Democrats and the nation in general, is high. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Obama’s chief rival for the Democratic nomination in 2008, is now the country’s most popular politician. President Obama’s political troubles would be undone by Hillary Clinton. She could reverse the party’s fortunes among working-class white voters who supporter her in the primaries (Hillary carried Ohio and Pennsylvania, two state’s that will be battlegrounds in 2012 and sponges of Democratic campaign dollars). Memories of the Clinton economy in the 1990s would nearly reverse Obama’s record of failure and the tainted image of the Democratic Party’s handling of the economy.

That does not mean this possibility is around the corner. President Obama, by bowing out, would virtually cede his place in the history books. For a President that has incontrovertibly viewed himself as historic and transitional, that would be a big blow. President Bush left office deeply unpopular and had resigned himself to vindication in the history books. It is less believable that Obama would similarly leave his fortunes to chance.

That said, if Obama did bow out, it would raise Democratic prospects for a win in 2012 exponentially.

I thought that was a howler, too.

I think that when people have somebody they really hate in office (i.e., Obama), they look upon former unlikeable candidates with fondness simply because anything looks better than what they have now.

If she got out there and ran, I suspect she wouldn’t be popular at all; furthermore, she is tainted by her association with Obama and her failure to establish any kind of coherent foreign policy approach. She is clearly powerless in the administration, much more so than any previous SOS, and I think it would be hard for her to explain this away.

I don't think Obama would want or accept Supreme Court appointment...too much work and not enough public adulation.

That said, if Hillary picked an attractive black woman as a VP, she might make up for some of the loss (this based on the presumption that Obama steps down of his own accord and puts his support behind Hillary and her Veep choice).

Does Hillary have it in her anymore? It seems this SOS job has been more than she could handle. It is probably the first time she has ever had to actually show up somewhere on a regular basis. The travel seems to have worn her down too. She appears in public, many times, unpolished and haggard

Whatever is going on with her certainly seems out of character. I do remember the energy and zeal Halfbright brought to the job.

LOL. Large, chunk and Hillary in the same sentence.

Was that on purpose?

Our local Walmart has an opening coming-up for a “cart chaser”. While I know nobama would probably prefer to be a “greeter”, I think the cart job more so fits his skill set. I believe this WILL happen. You heard it here first.

Maybe he could sleep through Court sessions the way Ginsburg does?

I don’t think Hillary is likely to pick a woman who might overshadow her in likeability. I think she’d probably pick someone who had been in her husband’s administration, which would be a nod to the Democrat faithful’s nostalgia for Bill. I don’t think he had many blacks there, unfortunately for her, but then, I don’t think blacks would vote for anybody other than Obama as president anyway, so it probably doesn’t matter.

A military person told me that Clinton was the last president to get protection for life.

It’s supposed to be down to about ten years now, and just for a former president. Not his family.

He’d do even more damage on the SUpreme Court. NO way.

Having said that, even Bob Beckel said it is possible he won’t seek a second term. Heard him on Fox, during ‘the Five’

What has Hillary accomplished as SOS? What did she accomplish as Senator?

She is simply the wife of Bill Clinton. But, the Left loves Bill Clinton, and will rally around a Hillary candidacy. The MSM will do for Hillary what it did for Obama in 2008.

The Republicans need to tie Hillary to Obama - that the election of Hillary will be Obama's 2nd term. (not Bill's 3rd!)

As someone suggested on another thread, we should back off Obama until its too late for the Democrats to find a replacement for him. THEN hit him with all we've got.

He may not want to run but it’s obvious he does not wear the pants in that family. There is no way in hell Moochelle will willingly leave the White House. She wants her 4 more years of lobster laden trips and all the clothes.

I understand the likability thing but, but...Hillary's not a woman is she?;-)

If he backs out, it’s our job to remind folks that it may be a different pilot, it’s the same route.

I’ve thought of this before also. The old “bait and switch”. Get all the republicans to run against Obambi, then at the last minute, switch candidates and throw Hitlery in the race instead. She’s Obama II, plus all the dirty work (Obamacare, etc.) has already been done. He’s bound to make ANYBODY look good - even another commie like her!

The Supreme Court?!?! Oh, good grief, that could even be worse in some ways. Please say I misunderstood that.

He recently appeared locally to read his teleprompters to the University of Richmond students. The local news showed the vast majority of those present to be the so called youth vote. He still has a lock on the black vote and college kids. The only thing to stop him from running would be impeachment and that would cause riots in the black community beyond comprehension.
