Vice presidential debate: Who won?
The Politico's The Arena ^ | October 11, 2012 | Arena Ref: Erika Lovley

Erika Lovley Moderator :

Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan debated Thursday night on a mix of policy issues.

Did Biden recover the ground that President Obama lost in the presidential debate last week? Was Ryan able to hold his own against the senior politician?

David N. Bossie President of Citizens United :

Paul Ryan looked presidential tonight and Joe Biden acted like a child.

It was clear that the Obama-Biden game plan is to lie to the American people because they do not have the facts on their side. We all know that President Obama failed miserably last week, and what Joe Biden displayed tonight is what liberals love to do...whine. When all the debating is done this country is still in despair because of the failed policies of the last four years.

Jim Manley Senior Director, QGA Public Affairs; former spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid :

For me, the funny thing was that Paul Ryan more than held his own on a perceived weakness - foreign policy - while Joe Biden largely dominated the budget and tax issues, which was supposed to be Ryan's forte. As far as these things go, it was a helluva debate, but Biden did what he needed to do. He was succinct, direct and to the point. He won....

Biden absolutely was NOT succinct, direct and to the point. He was
Confusingly wordy, all over the map, and obfuscating (both during his own time AND during Ryan’s time)

It’s just the photo.

This made me laugh:

“Celinda LakeDemocratic strategist :

Biden absolutely recovered the ground.

1) He energized Democrats. Like Clinton, he called out the lies and inaccuracies. This will energize Democrats who feel we are right but felt trampled on.

2) He showed a mastering of foreign policy that is unparalleled. He was reassuring in his approach.

3) Ryan was scary to women. How many more wars will he get and keep us in - Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, and saber rattling with the Soviet Union reminiscent of the Cold War?”

So, how many ladies here were “scared” by Ryan and his big blue puppy eyes?

I think Ryan won because he had to debate two people, Biden only one.

I thought the moderator was very biased, she pushed Ryan on many questions, she didn't for Biden. Biden got the soft treatment.

Who knew the Soviet Union had re-formed since yesterday? You’d think that would’ve made Drudge, that crappy AOL News and Yahoo! News.

I actually came to a different conclusion regarding the moderator. I thought she was more biased against Biden with her questions (as I watched the debate).

That being said, your opinion is shared by the majority here in FR and on Twitter and knowing who she is is can easily concede that you’re right.

Maybe my expectations were lowered so much after learning about the wedding that she went above what I thought she would do.

I do think Ryan won the debate. Biden appeared to me to be there solely to be a debate crasher more than anything.

Who won?

Some are giving it to one, some to the other.

It will probably shake out as being about even.

And since vice-presidential debates historically don’t make much difference anyway, the lack of any big winner means any impact will be pretty small.

More critical factors are going to be:

* how Romney does in the next two.
* the October jobs report, due out 4 days before the election.
* enthusiasm on election day.

He was reassuring in his approach.

Telling people not to sweat Iran because they have a long way to go to make a bomb wasn't reassuring. He is an idiot.

Ryan was scary to women

I watched a good portion of the debate replay on CNN where they had "undecided" voters watching with meters. The women loved Ryan. They liked everything he said. I think for a lot of these people this is the most they have ever heard from Ryan. He is a very likable guy, even when he is talking about our depressing economy.

The moderator allowed Biden to interrupt and talk over Ryan when he was trying to give the facts supporting his policies. The moderator also cut Ryan off just when he was set to conclude his remarks with the winning statement. Finally, Biden would make the most outrageous charges and the Moderator did no allow Ryan to answer them.

Sal, “And still crazy after all these years.”

Yep for sure, me to, Rab.

Ryan V brain dead. Pretty crappy job over all.
Did not stand his ground. Let moderator / Biden control the field.

Nope.

[but if you squeal, the Dems might mistake it for “scared” so try to be fairly quiet whilst ogling]
