Rove: Dems must stop scaring gun owners
The Hill's Blog Briefing Room ^ | March 24, 2013 | Meghashyam Mali

GOP strategist and fundraiser Karl Rove on Sunday said Democrats needed to “stop scaring people” about gun control if they wanted to pass bipartisan measures to stem gun violence.

Rove pointed to the debate over instituting background checks and said that Democrats were overreaching and pushing away gun owners eager for a bipartisan solution.

“This was prompted by the Sandy Hook murders. Those guns were legally purchased with a background check. This would not have solved something like that,” said Rove in a panel discussion on ABC’s “This Week.” “Let's be very careful about quickly trampling on the rights of people who -- and look, you want to get something done? Then stop scaring people.”

Rove said that there could be “mutual agreement” on many issues, including closing so-called gun show loopholes, but that heated Democratic rhetoric in the gun control debate had frightened many gun owners that confiscation was the next step.

“If you say should we keep the mentally ill and the -- and the criminals from getting guns, everybody would say yes. But that's not what this is about,” said Rove. “We're talking about, in this instance, having a registry where if a grandfather wants to give a treasured shotgun to his grandson, or granddaughter, he has to register with the government and go and get approval as the government to give that gun to his grandchild.

“Sen. [Charles] Schumer [D-N.Y.] for some reason or another, insists upon keeping a registry of guns. Now, if there's one thing that scares a lot of people who believe in the Second Amendment, is the federal government keeping a national registry of gun sales, and gun purchasers, and gun owners,” Rove continued.......

Tokyo Rove is at it again. Why in the world would he want to help the Democrats and their RINO enablers?

A RINO cannot change his horns.

Take a hike Rove. Nobody in gov't is even working on legislation to prevent gun violence. They're too busy working on people control.

You have to ask?

Karl Rove has done so much damage to the Republican party that he might as well be a Democrat.

Which gun owners would that be? The ones too stupid to see that 'rats will NEVER stop working toward a total ban and confiscation?

Well deserved profanities offered up for Tokyo Rove.

heated Democratic rhetoric in the gun control debate had frightened many gun owners that confiscation was the next step

Well, DUH. The Dems haven't minced words. They've come out and said the goal is confiscation. Rove can't be that stupid. Ipso facto, he's on their side. He wants them to move more stealthily towards confiscation; not give away the real game plan.

Better frightened than complacent! Personally, the more fired up they get gun owners, the happier I am. I'd like to see every conservative patriot (and even moderates if they are 2nd Amendment patriots) armed to the teeth. The more arms and ammo the people have, the safer we are.

BTW, you liberals? You are on your own, wave at us through the FEMA camp fences.

No, they need to abandon the insane premise that "gun control" will stop gun crime. Criminals don't obey laws.

The obvious tactic by the 'rats and other would-be gun grabbers is to pass these ineffective laws. After a while they'll say "guess that's not working, we need to confiscate and remove all guns so there are just none available anywhere for criminals." Of course that won't really work either but... They'll have achieved their real objective of disarming us. NFW

Over 3 decades since we elected a genuine, principled leader. The American people are pathetic sheep.

“Tokyo Rove” makes it official for me:

I’m not a Republican, I’m a conservative.

Not one dime for the RNC. What I don’t understand even now is why does the Republican establishment try to be liked by those who hate them? If the liberals are going to hate you anyway, why not do something to at least earn that hatred, like stand on your conservative beliefs & if they start growling and threatening, tell them you own guns & aren’t afraid to defend yourself.

Whatever happened to “Judge a man not by his friends, but by his enemies”?

For example, look at Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-SC. Some demented woman accosted him in a church parking lot but he’s here to tell the tale.

Gowdy for Senate!

When I read this, I thought of James Bond in Goldfinger.

Bond is strapped to a table and a laser is about to cut him in half, and Bond asks Goldfinger, “I suppose you want me to beg now?”

Goldfinger replies, “No, Mr Bond. I want you to die!”

The Dems aren’t “trying to scare us”. They want us GONE through imprisonment, assimilation, or death.

Rove is an idiot or a traitor, and is probably both.

Yea.

I think the people who keep telling us that we’re toast without the Republican Party oughta do themselves a favor and STFU now.

Because Rove just made it quite clear which side he’s on. He’s on the side of Washington DC, not America.

If the GOP is replaced by another party, the sooner the better.

Took the comment right off of my keyboard. Why wouldn't we want the Dems to shoot themselves (and their legislation) in the foot right up until Nov. 2014?

"Karl Rove on Sunday said Democrats needed to “stop scaring people” about gun control if they wanted to pass bipartisan measures to stem gun violence."

Typical quisling RINO-speak.

Notice that Rove isn't telling the treason lobby in no uncertain terms, to STOP IT. He's subtly advising them to slow down and take baby steps, instead.

They’ve already started outlawing one subgroup at a time—people not convicted of anything or committed—a very effective, incremental tactic. Eventually, the only way to legally possess firearms will be by spending very large amounts of money (attorneys for fixing records, insurance, fees, etc.).
