The RNC Presidential Straw Poll Is Here
FITS News ^ | January 25, 2014

PICK YOUR POISONS …

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention, the “Republican” Party is coming apart at the seams as factions of increasingly divergent political ideologies battle for a shrinking pool of the electorate.

And the camps are getting increasingly belligerent …

In one corner we have big government “neoconservatives” – fiscal liberals who are wholly owned subsidiaries of America’s military industrial complex. These “Republicans” want no changes to the status quo in Washington, D.C. – with the exception of perpetual funding increases for the bloated U.S. military.

In another corner we have big government Bible Thumpers – fiscal liberals who are wholly owned subsidiaries of the religious right. These “Republicans” want no changes to the status quo in Washington, D.C. – with the exception of federal funding for abstinence education and a host of other socially conservative government programs.

Finally, we have the so-called “whack-a-doodles” – fiscally conservative, pro-free market, pro-liberty voters who for the most part have aligned themselves with the Tea Party movement, which cropped up in 2009 in response to the initial overreaches of the administration of Barack Obama. This is the fastest-growing wing of the party, although it is every bit as splintered as the GOP itself.

Against this backdrop of division and declining relevancy, the Republican Party is doing a straw poll of the thirty-two politicians it believes are legitimate contenders for the 2016 presidential nomination.

In alphabetical order, they are: U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (New Hampshire), former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former pizza mogul and 2012 presidential candidate Herman Cain, neurosurgeon and author Ben Carson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, U.S. Rep. Peter King (New York), New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (Kentucky), former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio), former Secretary of State Condi Rice, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (Florida), Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.), U.S. Sen. John Thune (S.D.), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former U.S. Rep. Allen West (Florida).

Phew … right?

Right …

The straw poll asks Republican voters to choose their three favorite names from the list … and provides a write-in section in the event you’d like to vote for someone who didn’t make the party’s list.

And yes, to actually cast your vote you have to surrender your email address to the GOP …

Anyway, here’s the link …

It is worse than that, find the stories about the insider Haley Barbour and how he is/was a business partner with Terry McCauliffe not only in some sort of insider restaurant, but also as TV pundits. It is in the book “This Town” along with a longer list of so-called conservative pundits who orchestrate their appearances.

I see only one acceptable person who is acting like someone who is in the early stages of a presidential run...

Ted Cruz.

BTW, here is the link from 1/16 where Beck was already reporting on it. So it was not contrived by this paper I never heard of.

I chose Cruz/Palin?West

Used an old yahoo email that I haven't actually visited in years. After I submitted, Firefox told me it was an untrusted site - told it I understood the risks but declined to list it as an exception to the built-in protections.

At this point, shouldn’t we be going after ISSUES rather than personalities?

Get the platform straight, THEN we see who fits?

Sadly, Walker is pro-Amnesty, a position that would totally destroy America.

“...fiscal liberals who are wholly owned subsidiaries of America’s military industrial complex.”

I would expand on that to be the “Military-Industrial-Intelligence-Police Complex.”

Why in the hell is Chris Christie's name on this list? He is the candidate the Democrats have picked for us, just as they tried to pick John McCain for us in 2000, finally did pick him in 2008, and picked Romney in 2012? Anyone the Dems float as our candidate should be disqualified immediately.

And why in the hell are we still holding our first primaries in Dem states like New Hampshire, Nevada, and Iowa?

Those would be my picks as well. If we could combine the best of the three, he/she would be the perfect leader.

Let me whittle it down even further:

Ted Cruz
Rand Paul
Scott Walker

Senators have won election to the presidency, of course. But of all the senators who have ever run for POTUS, none has defeated a sitting president, and one - Warren G. Harding, in a wave election - has defeated governor. So why do we consider senators and private citizens for the nomination? Are we so sure of victory that we don’t need to nominate candidates with elected executive experience? Or is our gubernatorial bench so weak that we cannot find such to run? Here is the first cut, reducing it down to present or former governors:
Gov. Haley Barbour
Gov. Jeb Bush
Gov. Mitch Daniels
Gov. Nikki Haley
Gov. Mike Huckabee
Gov. Bobby Jindal
Gov. John Kasich
Gov. Susana Martinez
Gov. Sarah Palin
Gov. Tim Pawlenty
Gov. Mike Pence
Gov. Rick Perry
Gov. Brian Sandoval
Gov. Scott Walker
Of that list, my opinion is that the pick of the litter is still Governor Palin.

Wow! Amazing. That list is an exact match of the NSA’s work orders for the last month.

Took the meaningless Straw Poll. Of course DID NOT donate to the RNC (solicitation of donations is the real reason for the straw poll).

The RNC will likely notice a correlation between those of us who voted for true conservatives (e.g., Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin) and those who did not give the RNC cabal a penny.

You DO realize of course that in the 2016 campaign there will NOT be a sitting president running. So you can safely UNDELETE Ted Cruz and add him back to the list.

I didn’t see Cruz fighting ‘nasty’, just fighting (and doing a good job of it).

”Safely” - provided of course that the Democrats don’t nominate a governor.
I AGREE that we need someone who is a gut conservative who is, as Sowell put it, “a TALKING Republican.” It’s just that we also need someone who the public can trust to execute the law (provided of course that said law is constitutional).

Well, I respectfully disagree.
They are the only two who have a chance at beating Hillary.
