Wendy Davis: 'Texas is not really a red state'
The Washington Examiner ^ | February 14, 2014 | Ashe Schow

Wendy Davis told the Austin American-Statesman newspaper on Wednesday that “Texas is not really a red state, it's just a non-voting state.”

Sure Wendy, sure.

Well, she is right about Texas being a non-voting state. Texas is one of the worst performers when it comes to voter turnout. In 2010, just 36.4 percent of registered voters actually voted, making it the worst state for turnout. In 2012, Texas ranked 48th in voter turnout, according to a report from the University of Texas at Austin.

In fact, Texas has had lower voter turnout rates than the national average since 1972.

But does that also mean the state isn’t red?

Maybe. Around 1980 – eight years after Texas’ turnout rate dropped below the national average – Texas became a pretty deep red.

Since 1979, two out of the state's five governors have been Democrats. But before 1979, all but five of the governors were Democrats – although Democrats of yore are not the Democrats of today. (Also there was one member of the Unionist party and one independent governor.)

Most governors only served one term, except for long-term Gov. Rick Perry, who’s been in charge of the state since 2000 and is relinquishing control rather than running for a fourth term. (Texas has no gubernatorial term limits.)

Presidential elections are a different story. Texas has voted for the Republican presidential candidate in every election since 1980. And other than the Clinton elections, Republicans won by no small majority.

President George W. Bush, who served as Texas' governor, won the state in 2004 with 61 percent of the vote, compared to then-Sen. John Kerry’s 38 percent.

Mitt Romney won the state in 2012 with 57 percent of the vote, compared to President Obama’s 41 percent.

So while Texas may be a “non-voting” state, it’s a stretch to say that it's not a red state.

It’s about GOTV. The lefties need the polls to be open fpr weeks so they can drive every nit-wit in the district to the polls and tell them who to vote for.

I’ll bet ‘ole Wendy has more time in the abortion stirrups than a cowhand on a Texas cattle drive.

And Wendy Davis is not really a candidate. She is an agent for transformative causes-much like a certain Kenyan.

I’ve never been to Austin, but I hear it’s quite a liberal city. That probably skews one’s perspective of the rest of the state.

When I went to the Reagan Library over Christmas, the voting map results had the states he won in blue and the ones Carter won in red.

A more accurate color scheme since Reagan is the man that initiated the downfall of the Soviet Union. And the liberals have been creating their version of their socialist utopia here ever since.

In fact, Texas has had lower voter turnout rates than the national average since 1972.

Back when Texas was democrat-controlled it was much easier to fumble the vote in their direction. Now, we are on to them. That's why they are screaming bloody murder over Voter ID.

So, when they know people are watching not so many turn up. Lower numbers are not a bad thing as long as the vote is clean and we win.

The Wiki on this is actually very good and discusses in some detail how red was always used as an indicator of Euro Lefties. Until 2000. To think the US MSM didn’t collude to change that association is utter blindness to truth. I refer to them as “conservative” versus “stupid” states. I live in one that’s halfway.

After the 1984 election the media got together and decided that THEY wanted to have the color that made Reagan the winner, so they switched colors on us.

****************

Well it’s not weeks but they are open for in person early voting from Feb. 18 thru Feb. 28.
Heck on Sunday some churches make it an event for the congregation to go to the polls
after church and vote.

Yep, I believe it happened after the 1984 Reagan landslide. I remember David Brinkley saying it (electoral map) “looks like a suburban swimming pool”

This is GREAT NEWS when you're trying to oust a RINO like John Cornyn in a Primary. We need a low voter turnout in the March 4th Primary. We don't need uninformed voters, who only vote on name recognition, showing up to vote for John Cornyn simply because they are familiar with is name. Let the die-hards, the people who keep up with what's going on in this nation, be the ones to make the choice.
