New York Rep. Peter King is stepping up his attacks on 2016 GOP hopefuls Sens. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul as he builds on his burgeoning presidential campaign with planned trips to Iowa and South Carolina.

“I don’t want the Republican Party taken over isolationists such as Rand Paul, or people like Ted Cruz who want to shut the government down,” he said while visiting Harvard University’s Institute of Politics.

“I want there to be an alternative voice which I feel is in the tradition of Eisenhower, of Reagan, and you know, traditional Republicans who believe in strong national defense and a role for America in the world,” added the House expert on terrorism and international affairs.

King is considered a darkhorse at best in the race, but that hasn’t stopped him from testing the waters....

Okay, show of hands. Who here wants this guy to be the Republican nominee in 2016, much less president?

I don’t think anyone honestly believes he can be a candidate, much less a President.

He is out there at the behest of the GOPe to do damage against conservatives. He gets a promise of some powerful committee chairmanship, and he cements his viability to his NY constituents for years to come.

My guess is that he’ll even be closely working with Democrats on scuttling conservatives so they both (GOPe’s and Democrats) can run the Republican candidate that can lose like McCain-Romney. Perfect Storm.

I don’t care for King. For one thing, he personifies a New England elitist. For another, he’s all too free with snotty attacks on conservatives. At least Romney was civil in his competition with other GOP challengers, as we’re both Bushes.

Mr. King. You know nothing about Ron Reagan. Stay in New York.

Another data point suggesting the GOP cannot be saved.

This guy is being paid by the Professional Left to basically troll GOP candidates during the primary season. He’s essentially an embedded Democrat - who will get all the media attention as he trashes conservatives.

“Smelllls like a 3rd party to me—iffen this sh*t keeps up.”

It is very clear what the leaders of the party think about the base voters. Unfortunately we continue to behave like abused spouses.

I don’t know who his advisers are who could think there are Republicans anywhere outside of the particular owners of a mafia owned cadillac dealership in NYC who would vote for him.

King is 100% RINO and borderline RAT.

If you have to have a a rino I think Peter king should be the model. He combines conservative beliefs with some liberal and some very different. He is the guy who mostly takes on the islamofascists and as the head of the security committee is a very good fit. He is a maverick and no ones squish. He is still opposed to amnesty and will not even pay lip services to it like some of our “conservative” champions. It would be better to have an authentic conservative but nevertheless but if you have to have something else I would like it to be Peter King.

Unbelievable how these political hacks have illusions of grandeur when they are nothing more than douchebags.

I disagree. Peter King is very similar to Ron Reagan.....
Ron Reagan Jr., that is.

I ‘spect Mr. King ought to stay up north. If he comes south, he has about as much chance as a snowflake in Hades of gaining any support. He has all the makings of a scalawag or a carpetbagger.

He’s not a serious candidate. He’s a stalking horse for Hillary Clinton (or maybe one of the RINOS) to attack the conservatives (and Rand ) on her behalf.

When did a 3rd party win the White House?

If not in 100 years, I want no part of it.
I am done with losing elections.
