Why Chris Christie is smart to wave the white flag on gay marriage
The Washington Post's The Fix ^ | July 2, 2015 | Amber Phillips

After the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage, many Republican 2016 candidates tacked to the right, vowing to fight for religious freedom next.

Everyone from Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee promised social conservatives they'd use their increasingly limited means to prevent religiously conservative government employees from being forced to issue same-sex marriage licenses, or to grant protections for religiously conservative wedding photographers from having to shoot a same-sex wedding.

Let them fight over those folks, says Chris Christie. And he might be onto something.

At a New Hampshire town hall Wednesday night, the New Jersey Republican governor and latest presidential candidate broke with social conservatives by saying he'll enforce the court's decision instead of trying to fight against it. From Time Magazine's Zeke Miller:

"I think for folks who are in the government world, they kind of have to do their job, whether you agree with the law or you don’t,” [Christie] told reporters ... noting there are laws that he enforces as governor that he disagrees with."(continued)

Will Christie change his tunes if the SCOTUS bans donuts? It’s just one case and another arbitrary fiat declaration away, as is everything we take for granted in our “free” and “representative” nation.

Why should all these government employees be forced to do their job when the Supreme Court refuses to do it’s job?

Dunno, but the gays and SJWs can vote for him if they want him to be president.

He's right. I mean, why should we stand for something as unpopular as freedom of religion when we could be standing behind a fabulously popular issue such as buggery?

So to speak.

“I think for folks who are in the government world, they kind of have to do their job, whether you agree with the law or you don’t,”

Well, now we know what Christie would have done if he were a German official during WWII.

“Just following orders!”

The ones who say they are going to hand out exemptions and whatnot are just engaging in political theater unless they have something good to work with from a legal standpoint. They will “try”... but the bottom line is you can’t run a government with people cherry picking what they will and won’t enforce (immigration policy, anyone?!).

Christie’s “insight” into government jobs is arguably what the honest interpretation of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment was intended to discourage imo.

In fact, I understand that grocery stores accommodate Muslim cashiers who don’t want to handle pork. So what gives government a license to ignore people’s freedom of religious expression where the state government power-limiting 14th Amendment is concerned in the context of issuing marriage licenses to gays?

What has a homosexuality got to do with running a country? Same for abortion. Being either pro or con doesn’t do a thing for jobs, security, dealing with other countries, etc.

If we have to abandon our principles, why is it always assumed it will be to acquiesce?

Christie is a joke. He’s a walking RINO cliche. A typical liberal Dem hiding behind the GOP to help take conservatives down.
