Camille Paglia: What a Woman President Should Be Like
Time Magazine ^ | July 13, 2015 | Camille Paglia

Posted on 07/14/2015 10:22:25 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

She must pursue women's progress without playing victim or bashing men.

Why has the U.S., the cradle of modern democracy, never had a woman president?

Incredulous young feminists, watching female heads of state multiply from Brazil and Norway to Namibia and Bangladesh, denounce this glaring omission as blatant sexism. But there are systemic factors, arising from the Constitution, popular tradition, and our electoral process, that have inhibited American women from attaining the highest office in the land.

The U.S. president is not just chief executive but commander-in-chief of the armed forces, an anomaly that requires manifest personal authority, particularly during periods of global instability. Women politicians, routinely focused on social welfare needs, must demonstrate greater involvement with international and military affairs....

Argentina had a female head of State. Why doesn't the author mention her?

Also, I believe Denmark has a female Prime Minister. Ooops, no they don't. Helle Thorning-Schmidt (of Obama selfie fame), just led her part to defeat.

Didn't Australia have a female Prime Minister??

The author seems to imply that electing a female leader will automatically bring success. That is not always the case.

Up until Hillary the most significant campaign for POTUS by a woman was Liddy Dole in 2000. Before her it was....CO rat Rep. Patricia Schroeder who thought about running in 1988? Ultra lib NY Rep. Bella Abzug in 1972?

So the answer is “because almost no women have tried”. You can’t win the game if you don’t play.

Years ago I either read or heard Camille Paglia say something to the effect of “if women had ruled the world we would still be living in grass huts.” The NOW gang hates her.

Well, Gina Davis took a shot at it when she was younger and hotter.

I suspect that nascent feminaziism took over most American womyn making them shrewish and unlikable.

Hitlery has the same problem and if there is a God Americans will reject her also.

Argentina had a female head of State. Why doesn't the author mention her?

Short answer: she did

But that woman must have the right array of qualities and ideally have risen to prominence through her own talents and not (like Hillary Clinton or Argentina’s President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner) through her marriage to a powerful man

The NOW gang hates her.

That may be one of the reasons I like her.

That and she despises Hillary.

And yes, it troubles me that she would vote for Hillary, if she is the D nominee.

Correct. Problem for Hillary Clinton is that she plays victim and bashes males at too many opportunities, and that could start to turn off voters really fast.

In fact, the 2008 election was literally hers to win, but a young upstart named Barack Obama pushed her aside politically in no time flat, proof she's not as popular as some people think.

Evita never Pres, just First Lady you are not supposed to cry for.

Good point! But I wouldn't say HE pushed her aside. It's just that she was pushed aside.

Argentina had a female head of State. Why doesn't the author mention her?

Argentina has had two female heads-of-state -- and Paglia mentioned both of them.
