Hes identified a bloc of culturally conservative voters who are to the left of the Republican Party on economics. But is it enough to win the nomination?
A new Pew poll on the Republican race says several useful things about Donald Trump. For example: Hes still solidly ahead of the field in the race for the Republican nomination. The poll has Trump at 25 percent, followed by Ben Carson at 16, Marco Rubio and Carly Fiorina at 8, and Ted Cruz at 6. Jeb Bush, meanwhile, has taken a beatingsliding out of the top five, only a bit ahead of Rand Paul, whos on campaign death watch.
Pew includes a very intriguing table that breaks out two major topics of discussion: immigration and raising taxes on the wealthy. Those breakouts show where the Trump boom is coming from and why many pundits think hes reached the limits of his appeal....

Well, that’s a novel line of crap; I’ll give ‘em that.
I wonder who Mr. Graham voted for in 2008 and 2012. I would bet $1,000 on the Indonesian Kenyan.
This one or Lindsey?
¡Yeb! is dropping like a rock.
He needs to campaign in a foreign language some more.

I’m for the free market but against Crony Capitalism.
Does that put me to the left of the Republican party?
What “many pundits” don’t understand is that Trump has one key qualification that nothing can erase: no matter what statements he makes and what the media says about him, he will forever be an outsider. And that’s why many people are drawn to support him - they want someone who has not spent much of their career using and working inside the political system because they know it is corrupt and ineffective.
Insiders have to defend their records and prove they are smarter, have better policies, etc. Trump just has to get up every morning.
Conservatives havent been silent as evidenced by RINOs winning useless simple majority control of the Senate in 14.
The problem is that RINO incumbents like McConnell and Boehner, and corrupt media like Obama guard dog Fx News never encouraged low-information patriots to try to win 2/3 majority control of the Senate and House so that Congress could overturn a presidential veto of any bill that dared repeal unconstitutional Obamacare.
In other words, RINO incumbents promised a repeal of Obamacare evidently just to get themselves reelected, heaven forbid getting the supermajority of votes of both Houses to actually do so.
Again, the low-information silent” conservative majority hasnt necessarily been silent, just misguided by RINOs and media.
I agree with what you say bigbob, but qualifications aside.
IMHO, the reason Trump keeps doing well in the polls is because his political support comes from the largest demographic in the country the American worker.
Full disclosure, my horse in the race is Cruz. However, Ill grab the Trump ring if it comes around.
Trump’s real silent minority are the democrats who are going to vote for him.
