My own title - Carson leads GOP field (Iowa Hawkeye Poll: Carson 25 Trump 22)

CEDAR RAPIDS | Iowans are expecting a Clinton-Trump matchup in the 2016 presidential election, but based on a University of Iowa Hawkeye Poll, neither candidate their party’s nomination sewn.

And in Donald Trump’s case, he’s not leading the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, according to the poll of 397 Republicans and 402 Democrats “possible” or “likely” caucusgoers conducted Oct. 19-25.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson currently holds the GOP lead with 25.3 percent of Republican polled saying they would back him. Trump was the runner-up with the support of 22 percent. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio trail with 11.3 percent and 10.2 percent, respectively. “Don’t know” also accounted for 10.2 percent of the respondents.

“Carson appears to be consolidating his recent surge past Trump, especially among likely caucusers,” said Frederick Boehmke, UI political science professor and faculty adviser of the Hawkeye Poll. “Trump’s stronger support among those less likely to attend the caucuses could set up a big turnout battle, with Trump needing a big showing to have a chance on Feb. 1.”

Trump closing up the gap by 50% in two weeks. Seems like whatever boost Carson had is fading.

Looks like Trump is inching back closer to Carson if this poll is true. IMHO I think Carson has peaked.

In related news, President Santorum called Dr. Carson to congratulate him on this great news...

President Huckabee was unavailable for comment.

President Bush41 waxed poetic about how this reminds him of 1980, and how Iowa was such a strong harbinger of the nation’s political climate.

So where are Carson’s crowds, where are his small donors? There is nothing objective supporting the push polls showing Carson is doing well.

Meh.

Carson’s support in Iowa was understated to begin with, and Trump’s likely caucus support was overstated. There hasn’t been a lot of change.

All 3 polls showing Carson in lead (within MOE) were conducted by Universities! Is that just a coincidence? I am alumni of Univ of Iowa, and it is radical liberal now. It was much better when I was in school there in the 1960”s.

Why are dems included in a republican candidate poll? Wouldn’t they just vote for anybody BUT Trump?

Nonetheless, it’s important to remember that this is not a vote, but it is a caucus. They have to get people to the caucus location to support them.

Trump has the money to run a good ground game, but I’m not sure he will. Carson doesn’t have that kind of money, and I don’t think he has the organization.

I’m thinking this might be a place where Cruz slips in and takes it. He has both money, organization, and evangelical credentials. He’s also an outsider.

Kinda meaningless...The very liberal of the Democrats are going to vote for Carson...Has very little to do with the actual primary vote...

TRUMP just announced his VA plan. He’ll get VA support. Where’s Carson’s plan? He waits until everyone else give their position and makes his.

CRUZ and TRUMP have vision.

I read that Trump hired some top talent for Iowa, and that he has an excellent ground game. Trump is a good businessman, he appears to know exactly what he is doing.

especially among likely caucusers,

Old standby caucus goers are not going to cut it this time. Trump is making thousands of new Iowa caucus goers. Tic toc tic toc. ...Buh buh bye Carson and the rest.

Organization should be one of his strong suits, but time will tell. He can certainly do it if he chooses.

Carson says people who live in cities don’t have the right to own semi-auto weapons.

Many things trouble me about Carson.

Word is that Trump is way ahead of most in all ground games. Never underestimate Trump.
