OPINION: Biden's plummeting support in NM a product of his green agenda
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | February 4, 2024 | state Sen. David Gallegos / Eunice Republican

New Mexico may be small in terms of population, but we are the second-largest producer of oil. We punch well above our weight when it comes to American energy. That’s starting to be a problem for President Joe Biden.

New polling data shows Biden’s support in our state plummeting. With an approval rating of just 41% and a disapproval rating of 57% (according to a new Public Opinion Strategies poll), Biden finds himself 16 points underwater (in New Mexico). This decline is particularly worrying for the president, given that he won New Mexico by a comfortable 10-point margin during the 2020 election.

One of the significant concerns for Biden is the erosion of his support among Hispanics. While a 2022 POS poll indicated a 53% approval rating among the Hispanic community, that number has dropped dramatically to a mere 36% today. This marks a significant 17-point dip in less than two years.

Keep in mind, Hispanics make up more of the population in New Mexico than any other state. We are a majority-minority state. If they’re abandoning Biden here, they’re likely doing so in other states, too.

The top issues of concern in New Mexico revolve around the economy, crime, illegal immigration and the cost of living. Unfortunately for Biden, these are precisely the areas where he is failing to resonate with voters.

A particularly contentious issue is Biden’s complete embrace of the green agenda. Having worked in the natural gas industry for 30 years, this is personal for me. A staggering 54% of New Mexicans believe the oil and natural gas industry is the most crucial sector for the state’s economy, surpassing all other industries combined, according to the SOS poll. Despite New Mexico being the nation’s second-largest oil producer, Biden often attacks this vital industry.

Excellent opinion piece. Biden and his lackey NM Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham are also at work to ban guns in the state. So far the NM House has adopted a 7-day waiting period and several other bills are making their way through the 30-day session including ones banning semi-automatic guns, increasing the age to buy a gun and adding more "professionals" who can trigger red-flag laws.

Both houses of the legislature are controlled by far left radical progressives who believe that crime victims are to be ignored and perps to be rewarded, energy comes from rainbows and unicorns, and all vehicles are to be powered by hamsters fed Wheaties.

But I guarantee, Biden will win that state in a landslide and the statehouse and senate will grow “deeper” blue.

I don’t think that article said that Trump was up. Albuquerque rules the roast in New Mexico he would have to make a better showing there than the last two times

Bernalillo County will still cheat in the election and steal it for Biden (or whoever the dems end up running).

The green agenda is just a Democrat effort to handicap Red State economies. It’s mostly the Red States that produce fossil fuels. NM is a Blue State however. It’s a case of friendly fire.

There was a time when the UNofficial State motto for Arkansas was...”Thank heavens for Mississippi!” as Mississippi kept Arkansas off the bottom of all “worst State” lists.

At that time New Mexico had great jobs and schools!

Now, since the Democrats have practically destroyed my beloved New Mexico, both states now say “Thank Heavens for New Mexico!” as it is now on the bottom of the “worst” lists.

Wish we could; we're stuck with her for another two years.

Yes, they will.

If you get a chance, see if you can read the rest of the article at the link and let me know if you can or can't access it.

If you could grow bananas here, New Mexico would make a great 3rd world banana republic.

That's because legal immigrants don't like illegals any more than we do.

They know what's coming across the border better than we do and this is what they left their countries to escape. And now the democrats are importing it a funding it.

Lets hope and pray they throw in their vote with Trump, or at least against the democrats, and swing the state.

Unfortunately, you are outnumbered by California residents now living in N.M. It is as blue as it gets now.
