Terri Schiavo - CALL TO ACTION - Tallahassee Area
10-18-03 | phenn

Posted on 10/18/2003 5:53:43 AM PDT by phenn

As you may already know, Gov Jeb Bush has not yet taken steps to protect the life of Terri Schindler-Schiavo. This is in spite of memorandums of law from several notable legal scholars ensuring him that he has the legal authority and obligation to do so. People in the Tallahassee area of Florida are encouraged to hold vigil at the capitol offices as well as the Governor's mansion. Signs and banners can be fashioned inexpensively and will assist you in getting your message across. Please spread the word. Thank you.

If your wife collected a hugh settlement, took up with another man and had a child by him, would you still want her calling the shots about your life or death?

A feeding tube in your stomach is not nature either. At least I know that I dont seem to have one.

I'm not criticizing people like you who are supporting her. I just pray that I never find myself on either side of a situation like this.

To all. Do your loved ones a favor and write out a living will, and be specific. Dont make them agonize over a situation like this.

If I were in her position I would prefer death naturally.

It's all in writing and is very specific. My father and oldest sister have a copy as well.

>>A feeding tube in your stomach is not nature either.

Neither is starvation and dehydration.

>>At least I know that I dont seem to have one.

Even if you did it wouldn't mean that you are unworthy to have life.

Do your loved ones a favor and write out a living will

A living will could be your death sentence. Legally, any "irreversible condition" such as a limp or high blood pressure qualifies you as a "terminal patient". And "no heroic measures" has often been interpreted as no water or food. What is a person to do? Go to the web site for the National Right to Life Committee (www.nrlc.org) and download a will to live for the state you live in. Then, and only then, you'll know that your wishes will be followed.

I am so sick of pig-headed FReepers with these bogus "CALL TO ACTION! STOP THE LIBS! FREEPER ACTION NEEDED" over the top rants.

You obviously don't even know Jesus.

God shall not be mocked, what a man soweth he shall also reap.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Since you show no mercy for Terri, you shall obtain no mercy from God. Be afraid, be very afraid.

But I know this, from what I have seen and heard of her I would not want her fate.

Who would?

But thats just me.

Exactly!

The quality of her life is not really the question here unless you know for certain that living has no meaning to her. Even then you would be taking her opinion as to the meaning of life. She has awareness of herself and others and did not appear to be in physical or emotional agony.

The questions here are is her husband fit to be the one making decisions of life and death for her? Has the court been responsible in recognizing the husband as her legal guardian?

Terri has put nothing in writing. Her witness is a husband who has become engaged to another woman and has a child by this other woman. He got over a million dollars in a settlement which was supposed to be used for Terri's rehab. He has spent that money on himself and attorneys fees.
According to her Terri's family, she was talking of divorcing her husband. Her husband has also refused releasing her medical records. Some people believe that there is evidence in the medical records that Terri was abused. She was only 26 when this happened.
If you had nothing in writing, and this was your wife instead of her husband, would it be to her advantage to get rid of you?
If I am brain dead, I see no reason for doctors to keep me breathing.
However if I was 39, and could be helped, I believe I would want that chance.
If it was abuse that put me in that condition, I would want justice.
Would you?

First of all in case you havent noticed from my posts I have not taken a position regarding Terri. I dont have enough facts to make a decision. I have only pointed out an error in logic (recieving nourishment through a tube is not natural), and what I would prefer for myself.

Secondly; in regards to her husband, (he may in fact be an animal, I dont know) it seems to me that it would be much easier on him to have divorced her and let here parents make her medical decisions. Does he have anything to gain from continuing this battle? Blowing money on attorneys seems to be of no benefit unless there is still a lot of money left. Is he using the money from the settlement on himself? I thought that in a settlement like this the money could not be touched by anyone except for her care. If he can in fact use that money on himself then the settlement was poorly done, a legal snafu. As for the other woman, its been what?..13 years? His wife is dead to him.

Is it possible that he really is doing what he truly believes his wife would want?

>>You obviously don't know how to read. You are someone who hasn't visited her site.

You obviously don't know how to read because I didn't write she was clinically dead, AlaskaEric wrote that. I responded and said she wasn't.

Please make sure you hit reply to the right person. I have consistently defended Terri and her family and have a link to her website from my website and visit the site several times every day to check for updates.

There is a simple way to determine if Terri wants to live. Offer her some food, if she wants to live she will open her mouth or make some gesture or movement towards wanting to eat (if she is not been made too debilitated by her starvation or the morphine). If you have ever worked with disabled adults you will find their desire to live is often extremely intense.
