IU Affirmative Action Bakesale Followup
Star Telegram ^

Posted on 11/06/2003 9:02:07 PM PST by Rush Reagan

Hey guys you've probably read the thread about us having an affirmative action bakesale here at IU. I thought since we had it I'd give you an update. Well as you can probably guess it's been a real firestorm. When we had it there were probably 40-70 black people yelling at us for 2 hrs. No violence, and the University did not attempt to shut us down. So far they have actually been very supportive of our freedom of speech. However, after the bakesale in a time period of only 5 hrs the Black Student Union organized a forum where over a 100 people totally castigated the President of the Committee for Freedom, the group that put on the bakesale. We had not anticipated this and were not prepared. We should not have attended, but the President of the organization was forced to go by his boss because he is an RA. We've attracted a lot of news attention. We were the lead story on the local news last night as well as frontpage news in the student and local papers today. The Indianapolis Star also did a story and it has been picked up by the AP. Soon there will start to be letters coming in that call the organizer racist and slandering him. There have already been complaints that such protest should not be allowed at the school. That's good because that's what we wanted and we knew they would do that. We are drafting a response and we are going to hammer them. If any of you would like to help us by writting a letter to the editor of the school newspaper or Indianapolis Star get in touch with me. Thank you.

I recommend you run out and get this book as fast as you can:

Letters to a Young Conservative by Dinesh D'Souza

The book will help a lot. If you can swing it, try to get Mr. D'Souza as a speaker on campus.

Just remember to maintain your humor, keep smiling. Let the other side get angry, agitated and out of control.

I know it somewhat defeats the purpose, but how about an Alphabetical Action bake-sale? Anyone whose name begins with letters A-M pays $1, N - Q pays 50cents, and so on. While it dilutes the point a bit, who can protest something as arbitrary as this? OK, I know very well who could protest.

Or you can do it by their major. English, Politics, Psych pay $1, .... Of course, unlike the Alphabetical, you can still enrage people by saying Women's Studies, African-American Studies pay less.

Here's an interesting way to counteract that: Find out what percentage of state workers are blacks. They are about 10% of the population, so if they are 20% or more, they have a lot more impact on how the state is run than whites do! If they say that's not so, tell them they're not doing their jobs! If you work for an organization, and you're good, you'll have influence.

As the most loyal representatives of public employee unions, blacks actually have quite a bit of political pull, and they should be called out on that early and often.

It's great to know that you didn't get into a yelling match and lower yourself to their level.

What you are doing is truly brave and is a sincere struggle to tell the truth about AA. AA is a racist policy and should be challenged at every opportunity. Thank you Thank you Thank you for your courage to show the truth of what AA really stands for - benefits based on race and not merit.

"Black people cannot be racist because they don't have power."

I, personally, don't have "power" either - does that mean I can't be racist?

"Freedom and equality don't exist and they never will."

Then, sir, what exactly is your problem with this bake sale?

A degree costs everyone (except for out of state students) the same no matter who's paying for it.

There are some scholarships available only to blacks, or women, or American Indians, or minority women, etc ... so these people pay less, on average, than white males do. In which case, the cookies should all cost the same, but with "scholarships" that amount to refunds if one is in an affirmative class.

Just remember to maintain your humor, keep smiling.

Smiling and being happy is the absolute worst thing you can do to a liberal. Liberals are unhappy people who hate america. They say misery loves company. The liberals goal is to make everyone unhappy. Thus they attack anyone having a good time. If you smile, the liberals will feel their lonelyness and unhappiness even more.

We could have done a better job of smiling, but it's harder to do than you think when you have 40-70 people screaming at you at all times.

That is a good point. Most people can tell you in great detail what they don't want but one way to silence them is to ask them what they want.

Everytime they say something play the Columbo technique and say,"I not sure I understand what you want, can you please tell me again?"

Do this in the written response that is planned.

""Freedom and equality don't exist and they never will."

At your next bake sale you should give an additional 1/2 off the appropriate price if the customer is unbelievably stupid.

Don't forget to have someone with a video camera taping the sale.
It may come in handy in case a fight breaks out and the school tries to expel you for causing the fight.
Anyone starting a fight can then be charged with assault and thrown in jail.
Especially good to use against a professor if he/she is the one that instigates a riot.

You might want more than one person with a camera in case someone attacks one and destroys the evidence.

Has anyone heard of Jane Elliott, the schoolteacher who, in 1968, did a classroom experiment called "Brown Eyes, Blue Eyes." She separated the class by eye color and then gave different privileges accordingly. Her aim was to teach the evils of segregation.

If someone supports the Elliott experiment, how could he/she then oppose the idea of the bake sale?
