The court was right to remove him

He wilfully, publicly, and persistently defied the law and the rulings of courts with superior jurisdiction

Judges represent the law and cannot be allowed to defy it

This is a nation of laws, not of men.

Before we start feeling too sorry for Moore, let me make a prediction:

Within 30 days, Moore will have signed a book deal worth over half a million dollars, and he will have raised his speeking fee for banquets and fundraisers to $10,000.

My understanding is that there is nothing to keep him from running for his old position. After this whole episode, he just might be re-elected unanimously.

Why a panel? In most states wouldn't be up to the legislature to impeach and remove the judge from office?

My guess is that's the way the Legislature of Alabama set the process up......

And after losing the appeal, like the good carnie huckster he is, he'll have the opportunity to launch his new televangelism ministry or political campaign, depending on what appears more profitable.

My state has a similar panel for judges. They can discipline, reprimand, suspend and remove judges. Think of it as being similar to the state Bar associations being able to discipline, suspend, reprimand and remove lawyers.

Ten Commandments Judge Removed From Bench

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was removed from office Thursday for refusing to obey a federal court order to move his Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the state courthouse.

The state Court of the Judiciary unanimously imposed the harshest penalty possible after a one-day trial in which Moore said his refusal was a moral and lawful acknowledgment of God. Prosecutors said Moore's defiance, left unchecked, would harm the judicial system.

I'm wondering since I heard Judge Pryor was a part of that unanimous decision, if there is an ulterior motive here. Moore can still appeal to the remaining justices.

I think his press conference (ongoing) will get him disbarred. Then he can't run again.

The voters should elect him to the Senate or something.
When rightousness and good will are replaced by the tolerance of all sin, you know the country is in a downward spiral. The law of action and reaction will prevail.
Sometimes, the Lord works in strange ways. The pendulum has swung too far toward the left leaning heart this time, so the judges reward will be great when it swings back toward the blessings of the right leaning heart.
Judge Moore will be vindicated. His reward will be great. So it is.

Removal required a unanimous decision from the nine member panel - not much doubt from a legal perspective. Ruling 9 - 0 is very convincing that judge Moore went out of bounds with his protest from the bench.

From www.al.com, the Alabama site:

Court of Judiciary removes Roy Moore from Supreme Court

The Alabama Court of the Judiciary today ordered that Roy Moore be removed from his position as chief justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama. The court unanimously found that Moore "willfully and publicly" defied a federal court order directed to him.

In August Moore was suspended from his position as Alabama's Chief Supreme Court Justice after refusing a federal court order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from public view at the state judicial building. Moore was charged with violating the Alabama Canons of Judicial Ethics for refusing the order.

On Wednesday the court heard testimony from Moore and Attorney General Bill Pryor. Moore testified that he followed his conscience and did nothing to violate judicial ethics.

In closing arguments, Assistant Attorney General John Gibbs said Moore's public refusal to obey a court order "undercuts the entire workings of the judicial system."
