Is Naked Sushi Good For Society?

There is a controversy brewing over in Seattle, Washington, where activists of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum are protesting over a restaurant/nightclub called Bonzai.

The president of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, Cherry Cayabyab, said, “It's dehumanizing, the manner in which people are buying and selling sushi to be eaten off a woman's body. It's dehumanizing to be treated as a plate."

She went on to say that if the club persisted, there would be a country wide campaign to try and close it down. The naked sushi dinner is not a nightly thing. It actually on happens once per month. There are however, restaurants that do cater nightly meals like this.

These restaurants are in New York and Los Angeles. This was actually an art form of dinning that began in Japan and had spread to New York. After the unbelievable success of the New York restaurant, another one had opened in LA. This brings us to our current dilemma.

To get in the club, there is a $5 cover charge and patrons buy drinks and go through their choices of sushi. 7 models work on 30 minute shifts. Chef/Owner, Jun Hong, and promoter, Cheresa Nemitz, had said that there are strict and enforced rules towards the model that include respect for the model, no talking to her, and no hooting or yelling.

Critics at the university Women’s Center are still crying out to the public and the media that it promotes violence towards women. Norma Timbang, executive director of the Asian and Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center, complains that, “It provides a forum to see a human being as an object -- and when women are viewed as objects, they are more likely to be violated.”

"How can you tell when the fish has gone bad?"

When I roll over in the morning take one look at the fish owner's face and scream.

"It's dehumanizing to be treated as a plate."

Is it similarly "dehumanizing" when a child treats his father as a horse for a horsey-ride? When a model is used as a mannequin for a fashion show? When a husband is used as a purse-stand while his wife tries on clothes in the dressing room? When a construction worker holding a SLOW sign is being used as a (very high-paid) bucket of sand?

Liberals are shrill morons.

Norma Timbang, executive director of the Asian and Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center...

Timbang? Great name. Gotta be some good humor material there.

complains that, “It provides a forum to see a human being as an object -- and when women are viewed as objects, they are more likely to be violated.”

Note that she has no apparent problems with males acting the same way. Nice that she wants to put these women out of a job.

I repeat, liberals are shrill morons.

I don't know if I would enjoy eating in a place that smelled like the outhouse door on a tuna boat. Would sushi eaten close to the privates be called Tushii?

Eating food off of a pretty young naked woman's body should be kept behind closed doors and within the context of a loving relationship.

In fact, my apt is free right now! Maybe I should call the woman up! Haha! ;-)

In that second photo in the background, it looks like there's also a man with sushi on his body. Where's the outrage?

No, it's ok. I'm pretty sure he had a bodywax.

Sounds unsanitary. Eating off strange women.

Per the photo linked at post 34, the food is not actually in contact with the woman. She's more of a tray and not a plate.

Re:"Critics at the university Women’s Center are still crying out to the public and the media that it promotes violence towards
women. " Seems to me sushi promotes violence towards fish. The solution of course, is to be found in the dialectically synthesized middle: preferably jello wrestling between the PETA vegans and the Campus Pan-Asian Sumo Club.

...and when women are viewed as objects, they are more likely to be violated.

No one is likely to jump the bones of the sushi babes - they're perfectly safe from assault.

Just be careful with the wasabi.

I can just see her putting that on her resume.

"Year 2003: I was a Plate at a sushi restaurant. My duty was to serve the customers in a novel way, which served their earthly desires in more ways than one."
