President Bush secretly landed an hour ago and is currently eating Thanksgiving dinner at my undisclosed location. Anticipate a press release after he takes off.

Thanks for the report from Tokyo. It's always most interesting to hear from the streets of other countries.

"Wow . . I just realized this was an honest to god FR scoop of the world media, right here on FR:"

Yep, I just realized this too, even though I saw the thread early this morning.

When I said to my friend a few months ago, if you need info on breaking news, never hesitate to go to Free Republic, I didn't even know how right I was.

As we ran around prepping dinner at my mom-in-laws we were all muttering to one another, ha! that fixes hillary!, what will the dems do?, what are they saying RIGHT NOW!

I think this is my best thanksgiving ever!

Thanks, Chief, for the thread. This president is first class all the way, what a great leader. Another momentous occasion as seen through the eyes and ears of FR. I don't even bother with checking the news stations, I come here for the "real" breaking stories.

This will be one favorite picture for me. Look at the expressions on those faces.

The main difference is, W has a loving extended family to spend Thanksgiving with.

LOL! Almost woke up a post-turkey sleeper laughing at that one.

One of the best photos from President Bush's trip to Baghdad today...

SR-71's are one seaters...

No they are not.Pilot and Recon Systems Operator. Or I should say were not, since they are no longer flying, well supposedly at least. You may be thinking of the F-117, stealth fighter (misnamed, it's a light bomber, has no air to air armament at all). That one is a single seater.

Someone at the dinner table said that a British Airways plane flew a little close to AF1 en route to Baghdad, and radioed incredulously "Are you AF1?" They were told "No, we are Gulfstream bla bla bla..." In other words, shut the heck up.

Is that stroy true? Did that really happen? That must have been surreal for that other pilot!!!

I'm curious why they decided to switch planes at Andrews AFB though.

Probably shorten the transit time.

"I suppose they could have mid air refueled, but this way they could get aboard an aircraft, with a fresh crew and fully laden with jet fuel.

Also there might have been weight limits on the runway near Crawford. Even if it has the range to fly from the old AFB near Crawford, the runway might not be long enough for for Air Force One to take off with a full load of fuel. Also, someone might notice an unusual number of tankers going there and compromise secrecy. I don't think Air Force One has ever been refueled with the President on board either. Mark

I just saw on Fox that every member of congress had been consulted about this trip to bahgdad in in october. That would mean that Shrillery had a heads up!

If you heard this from Representative David Dreier, my take was that he was kidding. Not even President Bush's parents knew about this trip so I doubt the Congress knew. Besides, no way would President Bush have allowed hillary to know in advance. Just imagine what she would have done with this info...can't even think about it.

I just really got the time to sit down and enjoy this event for myself. I was cooking half of last night and half of the day today, and then a house full of guest who could care less what is going on around them. And then someone evidently had a car accident somewhere in the area which knocked out all the electricity in the area for a couple of hours. At the point the electricity went out I had just talked about the terrorist threats, so all my guests jokingly commented to me that it was the terrorist that did it.
