Hillary Clinton coming to Books & Books [FReep Hillary, South Florida]
Miami Herald ^ | December 4, 2003 | MARGARIA FICHTNER

Posted on 12/06/2003 1:49:00 PM PST by BillF

Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose acutely anticipated political and personal memoir Living History vaulted to the top of The New York Times bestseller list following its release in June, will be in South Florida to sign copies of the book on Dec. 16.

The senator from New York and former first lady is scheduled to appear at 4 p.m. at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables. Starting Friday, vouchers for copies of the $28 book will be available there and at Books & Books' sister store at 933 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach. Each voucher will entitle the purchaser to one copy, which may be claimed at the time of Clinton's appearance. She will sign only books that have been purchased via the vouchers.

Living History, which perched at the top of the Times' bestseller list for five weeks and has sold millions of copies for Simon & Schuster, also helped pique interest in subsequent political memoirs by other well-connected female writers, including Madeleine Albright's Madam Secretary and Barbara Bush's Reflections: Life at the White House.

For more information on Clinton's appearance, call 305-442-4408.

Hoping that some of our fine South Florida FReepers will take the ball and run with it. Organize a peaceful protest of Hillary. The Republic you save could be your own!

Having personally protested Hillary 4 times last summer here in the DC area, I can attest that FReeping Hillary is an exhilarating and memorable experience. Don't miss the opportunity.

If you need help, just ask.

Generally speaking, you can only protest on public property from the curb in a few feet. You can't block the sidewalk.

Getting a permit is rarely required, absent large numbers of protestors. If you're concerned, call the local police station and talk to their desk officer about a lawful protest. In most cities, a permit is only required if you have more than a certain number of people (I think that it is 25 in DC). Find out what the rules are (usually straightforward) and follow them.

FReep Hillary! You'll be glad that you did!

So Hillie, who couldn't even write her own memoirs, is taking credit in any success by Halfbright and Mrs. Barbara Bush???

Delusions of grandeur much?!

Pinging all of Florida. Something wicked your way comes.

I'm in DC area, but hope that some of you Florida FReepers can peacefully protest Hillary at this event.

Would one of you FL FReepers kindly post this info to the Florida local board?

Also, apparently there are other book signings in your state. Please let me know if you find out any info about them. At this stage, I only have some limited info about a Dec 16 morning book signing in Wellington, FL. (I'll start a separate thread about that.)

I've seen people lined up at a Barnes & Noble to plunk down $28 for Hillary's toilet papers bound into hardcover.

A very sad sight indeed. Freepers in south FL take note of the countenance and intelligence level of the buyers of "Living History."

DOn't assume the Sheeple are not intelligent, for some are.

But - when your Mommie was a Commie, then you tend to be a Liberal democrat regardless of the facts.

And don't forget that much of the Gables is now Cuban; Cubans seem to make very poor Liberal Democrats/socialists. 'Possum Man made that mistake - he actually thought that a large influx of refugees from Cuba/Fidel/Communism would consist of voters sure to vote Democratic.

Oops, sorry for not explaining the 'Possum Man. It is a favored nick name for President Carter because he was the butt of a biology joke which asked which vertibrate had more teeth than a 'possum?

I am curious as to how the Miami Cubans will respond to her sales efforts. This could be interesting.

MILLIONS will buy the book due to the celebrity status of its author and the celebrity of its author is only enhanced by fomenting "protests" at a book signing.

I live in Wellington and I won't boycott this meaningless event. Only a meaningless "protest" will cause her book signing to become the lead story down here and, imo, the average Floridian will think it stupid that putative Christians are spending their Advent engaging in political action while at the same time complaining about the left politicising Christmas.

If you wanna "feel good" about yourself protesting Hilary, at least wait until she is engaged in a clearly identifiable political act and a book signing will NOT be seen by Florida Francis and Florida Frances as a political act. The protestors will be seen as merely acting political.

IMO, the right is wrong in mimicking the left with these protests. I can't remember who it was that made the wise observation that over time, in a conflict, one tends to become like the enemy they are fighting

I see the so-called right aping all the tactics of the old commie left.

Include me out.

...and the celebrity of its author is only enhanced by fomenting "protests" at a book signing.

As the ex First Lady, her celebrity status is already well-established. FReepers being on the street, reminding those in line and passersby that she was part of one of the most corrupt administrations in the history of the US will not enhance her celebrity. And it will also remind those same people of her most recent acts of blind ambition and political greed on foreign soil.

Only a meaningless "protest" will cause her book signing to become the lead story down here and, imo, the average Floridian will think it stupid that putative Christians are spending their Advent engaging in political action while at the same time complaining about the left politicising Christmas.

Who said anything about politicizing Christmas? BillF and the rest of FReepers who have commented positively regarding FReeping Herself at her booksignings do so because they have seen how major media softpedals and spins Hillary! as a hardworking Senator. She's a grifter, and has been involved in too-numerous-to-list scandals and political dirty tricks for many years... and all of that is not meaningless so long as she remains in office or a candidate for higher office.

Include me out.

I think everybody figured that out; but hey - thanks for all the kind words and positive thoughts. I'm sure they are well-appreciated.

'Possum Man made that mistake - he actually thought that a large influx of refugees from Cuba/Fidel/Communism would consist of voters sure to vote Democratic.

Yep. And he was rewarded with 30% of the Cuban-American vote in 1980 and the loss of Miami-Dade County, 70% of Cuban-Americans having voted for Ronaldus Magnus in that race (I have never met a Cuban who admitted to voting for John Anderson).

The Gables, like most of western Miami-Dade, is Republican. It is still a rather staid place, so I wouldn't expect too many protests. I wouldn't expect too many attendees either, unless they are bussed in from Boca Raton or South Miami Beach.

Catholicguy, would you be so kind as to clarify what some of your objections are?

I understand your first concern that the protest will end up helping Hillary. IMHO, TgslTakoma has refuted that argument quite well, but I have some thoughts.

I had that same concern that protests would aid Hillary, but then I realized that the media was (and is) using the book signing tour to promote Hillary as a beloved figure and future Presidential candidate. By protesting, we present a message that Hillary is not universally beloved and is, in fact, a controversial person.

I'll just have to respectfully disagree on your first concern that protests invariably will help Hillary, but I understand where you're coming from on that point.

Aside from that first concern, and without getting into theological justification, if any, please clarify your second point. Are you saying that it's theologically and/or tactically improper for Christians to engage in political action during Advent?

If that is your second concern, is it just protests that are stupid during Advent or is all political action stupid during Advent?

Is your third point that the left has protested, so conservatives should not protest? Are you saying that all protests, even law-abiding orderly protests, are wrong, improper or ill-advised? (All FR protests that I've attended have been lawful and orderly.)

Looking forward to your timely, kind words of clarification.

Actually Hilliary was in Corte Medera in June and I don't think there were even 400 people there. They make them stand in line for hours with a little piece of paper.

And they told them that she would come in the front door but of course as is the clinton's custom, she snuck in the back door.

August 5th, she was in SF and I was going to go but my doctor told me it may give me a heart attack!

I really wanted to go to that one too...

That is unreal. It makes you really wonder if there`s some sort of idiot virus floating around in this country. I mean for me, if Jesus Christ himself came back to earth and had a book out, and was in my town for a signing, maybe just maybe I might be willing to wait on line for a while, but Hillary Clinton? Say WHAT? What kind of drugs are these people on? I mean even if they like her, are their lives so incredibly vacant that they would be willing to wait on line for hours just to see a freggin` two bit politician? WHAT? By protesting, we present a message that Hillary is not universally beloved and is, in fact, a controversial person.

Her upcoming appearance hasn't been promoted or covered by the media down here. I say let her coming and going be as quiet and as uneventful as possible.

For a nonpolitical event, yes. Especially for a book-signing.

If that is your second concern, is it just protests that are stupid during Advent or is all political action stupid during Advent?

Well, I could say all political action by elected officials is stupid but that would be too easy. Advent is a time for Christians to prepare themselves to celebrate the Incarnation and to anticipate the Second Coming. Let the world celebrate and bury its dead political leftists. Ignore 'em.

Is your third point that the left has protested, so conservatives should not protest? Are you saying that all protests, even law-abiding orderly protests, are wrong, improper or ill-advised? (All FR protests that I've attended have been lawful and orderly.)

No, I don't think all protests are wrong but, imo, Christians ought to engage in them rarely and only for serious reasons and, imo, a book signing is too trivial a matter (especially during Advent) and such a protest makes one an easy target for the media which may easily dismiss sincere protestors as obsessed Hilary-haters and she would likely gain sympathy - she is a girl, you know.

FAR too much attention is devoted to that shrill collectivist. Outside of a very liberal state, she is unelectable. Heck, republicans ought be sending her money to help feed her lust for power. Bill and Hilary are destroying the democratic party and having Hilary head the ticket would be the political equivaoent of a lethal injection for the dems.
