"The Republican Party at this time is the only hope there is for the adults to stay in charge."

For better or worse, I believe that to be a true statement but I, for one, am willing to any and all VIABLE alternative plans.

Unfortunately, don't get those here but get a TON of usless bitching and griping instead!

The Founders, dead two hundred years now, could not possibly have defined what providing for the general welfare of the United States means today.

Ah, a 'living breathing' Constitution sort of guy? Isn't that a liberal view? Or do 'conservatives' opt to use it when it suits them as well?

(Yikes, only now I see this thread?)

Good post.

The Bush-bots are as bad if not worse than the Dems.

At least we know what the Dems stand for.

Lovely, yet shallow argument devoid of substance.

It's MY view, not left or right, just mine.

By the way, the Founders themselves set an amendable Constitution in place. If they intended for this constitution not to be changed in accordance to societal changes, they would have simply set that rule in stone within the Constitution itself.

They did not, because they did not wish to free themselves from monarchical tyranny, simply to set a Constitutional one in place.

The right to government by the people, of the people, and for the people did not die with the Founders.

Okay, lets just allow the Dems to hold EVERY elected position there is to be held and to appoint like minded Dems to EVERY appointed position, into perpetuity. Lets all hold hands and sing the INTERNACIONAL, then.

What faith you have in the 'flyover' states. They can't make decisions if we offered them a real choice so let's offer a watered down choice. Mind you, by the time, the Republicans are in power the outlook won't be any different because they've forgotten the message, but 'we' are in power instead of the other guy so that makes it acceptable. Sort of the 'king of the hill' mentality and playing a game. Who's being childish again?

You may imagine that you know/understand about politics and government; however, you don't, on either acacount. And calling those of us, whom you don't agree with, " you guys on the right " ( WHAT THE BLEEDING HELL ARE YOU...ON THE LEFT ? ),makes NO sense in this context.

Well thank you. I will admit I don't understand 'your' form of government in the least. And the reason I used the "" around right is because you're fooling yourself. You're no more to the right than Bill Kristol or Krauthammer. You play at being on the conservative side, but when it comes down to the brass tacks your views don't differ that much from a moderate Democrat. I doubt they ever did.

There are three kinds of people ( there used to be only two, but not anymore )... those who see the glass as 1/2 full, those who see the glass as 1/2 empty, and those, like you, who see NO GLASS at all.

No, there are two kinds of people in this nation of states. Those that see and view the Constitution as the Founding document of this nation of states and those that use it as a catchphrase to pass off their unconstitutional excessive expenditures as some sort of conservative victory. You tell me which one you are

The slim majority, the GOP has in the Senate, is just about nonexistant and your claim, re that " majority", only PROVES, dead to rights, that you haven't a clue. Please, please, PLEASE buy one !

It's never enough for you is it? We just had to win back the Senate. We just had to win the Presidency. We just had to keep the House of Representatives in Republican hands. Why? Because 'we' were going to finally get some conservative issues through. How in the name of all that is holy and decent is the largest 2 year expenditure since LBJ conservative? How is expanding a government entitlement to the point of breaking conservative?

Ronald Reagan, himself, doesn't pass YOUR smell test. Perhaps you might care to readjust your positions/ideas some.

I like my positions right where they are thank you very much. They are conservative views, something that is quickly and surely leaving the Republican party

What you're proposing, re you oh soooooooooooooooooooooooo far right, you're about left, PURITS/MORE CONSERVATIVE THAN THOUers forming a new party, is a death wish, a DEATH WISH of such huge proportions, as to be laughable, if it weren't so destructive. You're truly delusional, childish in your absurd disconect from reality, that it boggles the mind. Get those crazy, mythic, fictionalized, fantasy day dreams, about what life was once here, would be again if only every politician did as you and your ilk said they should do out of your mind. Life was NEVER what you assume it was like.

Ilk? LOL!! No argument back to the name calling. You can't defend your position because it is undefensible. No one in their right mind would call what the Republican party has done to this nation of states in the past Congressional session a conservative move. However you cheer from the top of the towers as if 'we' get those few more votes in the Senate, that one extra seat in the House, everything will be coming up daisies. Haven't you been watching? The Republican party ten years ago said it would never pass a healthcare plan, now it gleefully pushes one through and calls it a victory. Some victory. My children's children will be stone ass broke but by gum, Republicans will be in charge. Will my grandchildren be compassionately broke then?

When President Bush is re-elected and should he be given a much larger majority, in BOTH Houses, he WILL be able to get more ( and he's already done quite a lot to forward the Conservative cause,in an untenable situation , which you ignore and ignore and IGNORE, because it doesn't quite suit your agenda ) done, to all of liking.

Good grief, I should hope not. If you call what the Congress has been doing as moderately conservative so far, God help us if they continue down that path. AWB will just be extended for a few more years instead of the rest of my life? Perhaps they can pass another toothless anti-abortion bill that many Christian websites have already come out against because of the massive loopholes? Heck, extend healthcare to those over 40? What? Just tell me so I won't be so upset when something else passes that every citizen of every state will end up paying for three generations from now

Incrementaism works. Incrementalism is the way WE must go, if we hope to EVER get anything at all, that we wish done, done. Yes, it takes years; even decades. You want a benevolent dictator, not a president. You demand INSTANT GRATIFICATION, like a spoiled child or petulant teen. You want what you want, when you want it, or you're gonna stamp your feet, throw a temper tantrum, and take away your vote.

Who's the one demanding instant gratification? You have to have a Republican in office next term. You have to have a Republican representing you at every level. Not ten years from now, not even five years from now, but right this very minute. This instant!! Frankly I could care less who gets into office if they're not conservative. I'm willing to wait. I would rather vote my conscience, instead of voting for a letter of the alphabet, in the knowledge that one day it will matter again

If you refuse to, then you shall NEVER get even a wee bit of what you claim you want.

Oh, well, know that you put it that way. Since we all know incrementalism has worked so well over the years. It's a fake right? Or should I say a fake left? They continually move to the left over and over in the hopes of getting all those votes. Of course once they get so far to the left, the Republicans that have been elected will have no desire to move to the right. Oh, but it's okay. 'We' will be in power. Some plan you've got there.....

This is what the Republican party has become. Shouldn't be suprised considering its beginnings but God help us

Timing is everything and the time is not now to effect big changes, and Ross Perot set the 3rd party movement back lightyears. But, now that the Dems are histoire, we can in 2006 work on making significant changes toward less govt. Keeping in mind that this war on terror denotes a century of combaat in front of us.

By the way, the Founders themselves set an amendable Constitution in place. If they intended for this constitution not to be changed in accordance to societal changes, they would have simply set that rule in stone within the Constitution itself.

No problem with that at all. Pass Amendments to do what you want to do. However do not use interpretation of the document to suit your needs without passage of an Amendment.

They did not, because they did not wish to free themselves from monarchical tyranny, simply to set a Constitutional one in place.

No they established a Federal Republic that except in time of war most of the power would lie within state governments. Do you see that example within either party? Or even a promise (fulfilled in some way, not blank words at the stump) that this is happening?

The right to government by the people, of the people, and for the people did not die with the Founders.

According to you it did. By your very stance it is not by or of but rather for the people. And if we don't like it, to heck with us. The states created the union, not the other way around. Would the Founders have established an all encompassing government that overruled the very establishments that created it?

"However do not use interpretation of the document to suit your needs without passage of an Amendment."

That passage needs no Amendment, it's quite clear. Congress has the power to levy taxes as it sees fit to ensure the well-being of the nation.

"No they established a Federal Republic that except in time of war most of the power would lie within state governments. Do you see that example within either party? Or even a promise (fulfilled in some way, not blank words at the stump) that this is happening?"

Do you see anyone working on time travel?

We are where we are, wishing we were elsewhere means nothing.

Do you have an issue with the way this nation has progressed? We are in fact, the greatest nation on Earth (do you agree with that?), what exactly is better than the best?

I bet you're one of these guys that Monday mornings every football game.

"According to you it did."

Bullsh%t...the people elected every single person in Congress, the president, and nearly every other public servant in service today.

Try coming back down to the real world once in a while.

I have almost NO </> faith in my fellow man, let alone in those here, who claim to not only be interested in politics, but to understand it. So, having " faith " in those, not members of this site, in " flyover country ", to vote for a PURIST type candidate for president, or any other elected office, for that matter, is even lower. And besides, it would take MORE, than getting the majority of Electoral College votes, for said candidate to win. See? You just proved me correct, yet once again, with your nonsensical drivel. YOU and you alone, are being childish and right off the bat to boot.

I don't " play " at anything; least of all being Conservative. OTOH, of course YOU don't understand MY kind of Conservatism...you aren't a Conservative at all; not in the least. You're a fringer, a fringer and a PURIST, a MORE CONSERVATIVE THAN THOUER, who would rather get absolutely nothing of what you claim to want, than 50% of it. Damned dog in the manger types, would rather ruin it all, for everyone else, because they are UNAPPEASEABLE and foolishly proud of it. Second childish thing, in your reply. Two for two thus far.

Okay, there are two kinds of peopel...those who actually UNDERSTAND politics and those who don't and you're part of the group who DON'T ! Happy now ?

Talk about projection! ROTFLMSO

No, nothing is ever enough for YOU and you're ilk. Me ? I'm happy with more that's been done in these past three years than not and yes, there ARE things that I don't agree with/am not all that happy about; so there. Fourth childish bit. You're batting average is THE best ! :-)

"ILK " isn't name calling. Besides getting educated in politics, governemnt, economic, and history, I see that you are in desperate need of English 101. As to your children and your children's children, as infinitum, they'll be paying for YOUR stupidity, into perpituity, if you have your benighted way. And, pet ? Your simplistic, hubristic, unknowledgeable tirade is nothing, if not CHILDISH !

I've read the rest of your sanctimonious, irrational, prepubescent, totally irresponsible, smarmy ramblings and to answer it all, point by point, would not only bore me to tears, be a complete waste of my time, but would be meaningless to you. You don't really give a damn about this country, your don't really give a damn about its future, and you couldn't care less about yourself, all Americans, your children, nor their children into the end of time, since as you have so clearly stated, YOU DON'T CARE WHO IS PRESIDENT, UNLESS THEY ARE A FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR TO THE RIGHT CONSERVATIVE. Jesus Christ wouldn't be good enough for you. GOD, HIMSELF, wouldn't be good enough for you. George Washington and Ronald Reagan combined, wouldn't be good enough for you.

In the end, when all is said and done, you will NEVER be satisfied by ANY president, nor, I suspect, with your narrow attitude, with anything whatsoever. Frankly, YOU are as bad, no I take that back ... you are WORSE, far and away much worse, than your average nitwit Dem voter. You are the enemy within!

That should have read : It will take MORE than the majority of votes/Electoral College points, from " flyover country " ( which NO ultra, faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar righty candidate would get anyway !), to win.

That'll teach me to proof read better the next time. LOL

Ditto. You're no patriot! You're merely a Republican robot...Alfred E Newman could get elected with you people as long as he had an R in front of his name. A patriot is someone who cares about the destiny of the nation, not a specific party.

That, from a self proclaimed " Hamiltonian Conservative " ? Well, dear, it makes PERFECT sense, coming from you ( though you are not, not, NOT what you claim to be ! ), since you make MARXIST statements all over FR, without even batting an eye, or realizing that you are, in reality, about as far removed from being any sort of a " conservative ", as the Clintons are.

You don't even understand what you post!

You don't " hate " Dems at all. You've said, right here on this thread, that Clinton ( which one ? ) is more Conservative than President Bush.

You repeatedly, on various threads ( yes, I've checked a few ), used such MARXIST terminology as " elitists " ( when you claim you meant anyone with any spending monet this Christmas season ), " Haves " and " Have-nots ", talked negatively about those " evil " corporation heads, and more. You don't know what those words mean, misuse them, abuse them, indulge in class war fare, disparage Republicand...good, bad, and indifferent, tarring them all with the same overtly broad brush, and then call me " silly ".

You can't see the difference between the Dems and the GOP, which makes you, not only SILLY, but ill educated, ill informed, politically unknowledgeable, naive, foolish, and not, not, NOT Conservative in any way, shape, manner, or form; except, of course, in your own delusional mind.
