"I do not believe one single US life was worth the capture of this guy. He did nothing to the US - and the Iraqi people have shown they would prefer to have him there, than to have US occupation for years to come."

Katie Colic will be despondent tomorrow morning, talking about how there are so many Iraqi children STILL without medical insurance, and that Saddam was basically a moderate centrist.

Fortunately, the DU crowd appears to be rapidly dwindling. I went there today to check out their reaction to Saddam's capture, and was amazed that they can hardly assemble one significantly subscribed to posting thread. Most have 2 or 3 comments and then die. And those with more than a few threads are all comments by the same sorry few nutjobs!

Another favorite theme was "I'm leaving DU." Apparently it is an epidemic over there!

It was almost embarassing to see how trivial they have become- but in truth I loved it!!

You can't make this stuff up folks. From http://askwaltstollmd.com/wwwboard/messages/220750.shtml :

No matter what he has done, Ihope they dont torture him.

******

You're so kind-hearted:-) It wouldn't say much for us if we behaved like Barbarians too, would it?

But what's needed now is for the Iraqui people to be allowed to have their own democratic government, so they can recover from the awful oppression.

Let's see if Bush/Blair let them. Saying it and allowing it are two separate things.

*******

I totally agree with you Philly!
What excuse will Bush find now to keep troops in Iraq? Enough people on both sides died already, it's time to leave those people alone and let them rebuild their country on their own and build their own government. Now Bush probably thinks that his "glory" will win him the next election.

*******

It'll be interesting to see just WHAT is being rebuilt. Will it be a handful schools and hospitals? Will it be Lots of schools and hospitals and homes. Or, will it be mostly industries that'll facilitate oil production and the military interest?

*******

That's a good question!

*******

How come they could capture Hussein, who never attacked the US, but can't find Osama Bin Laden, the one who did all the damage over here?

Saddam Hussein may be dispicable (as are many Middle Eastern dictators), but he didn't attack US soil. That has to be remembered. Also, the US attacked HIM, attacked a soverign nation without provocation, and without
a declaration of war.

This is not cause for celebration, but the war hawks, and the Might Makes Right choir will see it like such.

If the two sides were reversed, and Saddam Hussein came onto American soil with an attack group, and basically hunted, captured and arrested President Bush for continuing to keep live nukes and fund nuclear weapons research, on the premise he was going to use the those nukes, what do you think the response would be?

From the people?

From other nations?

Virtually every world law on the books was broken, and somehow Saddam Hussein's "capture" is a "victory."

*******

Good, powerful questions, G. (applause)

*******

"Every world law in the book was broken?" What he did to the people of Kuwait was enough to go after him. Raping their women and torturing and killing their people plus setting all those oil fields on fire. Plus now they think he has slaughtered maybe a million of his own people. And there is no statute of limitations on murder. I would rather fight him on his own soil than on mine, and if you think he wouldn't send a nuke this way once he got the technology then you need to pull your head out of the sand far enough to look around. We live in an evil world and evil people do not reason. I wish to God it didn't have to be this way, but as long as people like Saddam exist it is gonna be like this. Thank God for George Bush. After 9/11 any other president might have shown how weak we are. Saddam thought that we were weak to, but he found out different.

*******

What Hussein did in his own country was despicable. But it was no business of ours. What gives Bush (and his little lap dog Blair) the idea that he runs the world!?

*******

Two words: Soverign Nation.

Look it up. You might learn something about the rights of same.

*******

Yup they have and thats wonderful. Too bad he wasnt a threat to us and as of yet no wmd's were found. Too bad it was a rush to war to make up for 9-11. No one will see this because Bush is making himself look like a hero. There is still a murderer out there who killed over 3,000 americans. How quickly they forget. He couldnt catch the real culprit for 9-11 so he decided to make up a lie that Iraq was a threat and had weapons. Too bad in this lie hundreds of young men and women, also children have died. Bush is still an idiot, always will be. He still has done NOTHING about 9-11 and most likely never will. Stupid americans think the Iraqi war was for 9-11. WRONG! It was an unnecessary war. But the Iraqi people ARE free thanks to OUR military NOT Bush. Its too bad though men and women died for a war based on falsities. Pray that George doesnt last here 4 more years as president. Send him to Iraq to be president. To him Iraq is more important than our country, out healthcare, our employment problems, and the perpetraitor of 9-11. God knows who he will start a war with if he wins the election next year.

*******

Sorry, I don't believe in coincidences. Here is the Q&A we
will never see in the major news media, because it would
require honest journalism and Donald Rumsfeld on truth
serum:

Q. Mr. Rumsfeld, after more than 2 yrs, the largest
military organization in the world has found the renowned
despot in his own backyard. Why not sooner?
A. Well, gee, let's look at this. The President is going
into his re-election campaign right after xmas, and you
quibble over timing? I mean, what better way to prove the
U.S. threatens the entire world with weapons of mass
distraction -- I mean! that Saddam threatens the entire
world with rusty artillery shells and trucks that look
spooky in satellite photos!...*-*crap!*-*

Q. Uh, Right. Was this a breakthrough in intelligence for
the U.S. military, Mr. Rumsfeld?
A. Sure it was. It's always a breakthrough when you manage
to snow the American people with pre-arranged tactical
maneuvers, like standing down the Air Force on 911 so we
could justify our assault on a sovereign nation and take
control of what may be the world's largest oil reserves; I
mean! we received the same quality of intelligence we
always do before launching a significant military
operation, even better than the intelligence we had on
WMDs...*-*damn!*-*

Q. Ooookayyy. Mr. Rumsfeld, what condition was Saddam in
when he was captured? He looks pretty rough in the video
we have.
A. (chuckling) He looks like poop! He looks like he
couldn't drag himself to QuickTrip for a warm pretzel; he
looks so bad he... I mean! Don't let him fool you! This
tyrrant was busy conducting a sophisticated military
operation that would have brought the entire free world to
its knees! Sure, the attacks on 911 were the result of Al
Queda, and we never found any weapons of mass destruction
in Iraq to prove Saddam was a threat to us, but don't let
those little facts blind you to the truth. *-*shit!*-*

Q. So, uhh, Where do we go from here, sir? Will Sadam's
capture mean we can talk about an accelerated pull-out from
Iraq?
A. Sure, sure, we can talk about lots of things. We can
talk about snow bunnies running through Afghanistan, we can
talk about going back to the moon and finding Amelia
Ehrhart, we can talk about re-electing George Bush and
keeping the biggest band of liars known to man going for at
least another 4 yrs! I mean, we certainly want to discuss
our options for whatever the American people would like to
hear, as usual! What kind of despots -- I mean PATRIOTS! --
would we be if we didn't talk a lot? *-*F$ck!*-*

Q. Great, great, thanks, Mr. Rumsfeld! [Dan Rather
nervously takes a sip from a suspiciously placed glass of
water. A camerman chuckles.]

Dan Rather: Well, there you have it from Secretary of
Defense, Donald Rumsfeld. We have just learned of the
brilliant steps the U.S. military took to capture the
world's most dangerous man alive. The only question now is
(*burp*), will George Bush command his forces from exile or
from prison? I mean!!

*******

I don't know what's more annoying, those trying to minimize the accomplishments of the Bush Administration, or those belatedly climbing onto the bandwagon.

The most popular headline in the Monday papers will no doubt be:

WE GOT HIM!

We?

There will be a lot of newspapers with that exact headline... papers which opposed our invasion, papers which questioned the President's motives, papers which questioned our military strategy, papers which went so far as to provide aid and comfort to the enemy.

We?

Don't let them get away with it!

They hate Lieberman. They consider him religious, which means he comes in for their vilest, most hateful contempt. They call him "Holy Joe" and revile him in every way they can, sniggering and making fun of his faith.

I remember seeing many threads where they all said they would leave the Democratic party if he is the candidate.

After I read them, I kept hoping Lieberman would be the candidate. The meltdown at DU would be second only to election 2002.

"I think it's about time UC Berkeley allocated some money to do a study on what makes liberals tick."

Sowell's new one, "Conflict of Visions," is worthwhile.

Well, actually, it's spectacular.

Isn't it amazing? That he feels that someone that "was only a threat to his own people" should nevertheless not be tried by his own people?

The classic Democrat idiom - "WE are not racist, and we will help you - we understand you are too stupid/prejudiced/backwards to do things on your own."

How about this:

"However, the tantalising detail provided in the intelligence document uncovered by Iraq's interim government suggests that Atta's involvement with Iraqi intelligence may well have been far deeper than has hitherto been acknowledged.

"Written in the neat, precise hand of Tahir Jalil Habbush al-Tikriti, the former head of the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) and one of the few named in the US government's pack of cards of most-wanted Iraqis not to have been apprehended, the personal memo to Saddam is signed by Habbush in distinctive green ink.

"Headed simply "Intelligence Items", and dated July 1, 2001, it is addressed: "To the President of the Ba'ath Revolution Party and President of the Republic, may God protect you."

"The first paragraph states that 'Mohammed Atta, an Egyptian national, came with Abu Ammer (an Arabic nom-de-guerre - his real identity is unknown) and we hosted him in Abu Nidal's house at al-Dora under our direct supervision.

" 'We arranged a work programme for him for three days with a team dedicated to working with him . . . He displayed extraordinary effort and showed a firm commitment to lead the team which will be responsible for attacking the targets that we have agreed to destroy.'"

If a private communicaton between Tahir Jalil Habbush al-Tikriti and Saddaam Hussein dated July 1, 2001, regarding Mohammad Atta and the commitment he hdd made for "attacking the targets that we have agreed to destroy." cannot convince someone that there is a direct connection between Saddam Hussein and the events of September 11, 2003, then that someone must be Howard Dean or Cynthia McKinney.

Any reasonably intelligent person would ask if Mohammad Atta had attacked any targets other than the World Trade Center or Pentagon between July 1, 2001 and September 11, 2001, because he certainly could not have had any expectation of doing so AFTER September 11. The attacks of September 11, 2001 were the only attacks directed and coordinated by Mohammad Atta in the period in question.

The inescapable conclusion is that the targets referenced in this memo wer the ones in fact destroyed by the team led by Mohammad Atta. And if one gives credence to the memorandum at all, these targets were "agreed" to be destroyed by Saddam Hussein.

What is described here is no mere "link"; it looks more to me like a chain of cammand.

The Democrats that have been moronically chanting the mantra "No link between Iraq and Al Qaida" and "No link between Iraq and 9-11", ought now to commit public seppaku out of respect to the shame they have brought on themselves and their nation.

But, never mind, they won't do it. At the very least, though, they ought to have the decency to change the name of their party to "The Idiot Party" as a clarification for the least intelligent among us.

I noticed that all of a sudden DU has closed its general discussion forum, which was full of posts like this one which, I assure the gentlemen from the Secret Service, I lifted verbatim from a thread on that forum:
If bush wins again I suggest everyone buy a high powered sniper rifle with a few hundred rounds and learns how to use it quickly.

I don't know how I missed Gore. I got on a pretty good roll and then duty called and I got distracted.

Your contribution:
"Al Gore was last seen wearing a fake white beard and a red suit, standing over a large kettle filled with cash and ringing a brass bell. In another feeble attempt to raise cash for his next campaign." is a true gem. I's be proud to add it to my salacious collection.

"One almost has to feel sorry for such types. At least we can offer them a one way ticket to the destination of their choice - France?"

I wouldn't mind paying such a premium in federal taxes, if a large portion of it went for providing transportation for such individuals; on a "one way", and "no return" basis of course!
