FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FIVE-HUNDRED-AND-EIGHTY ROCKETS CONFISCATED

TIKRIT, Iraq – An Iraqi citizen provided information to U.S. Air Force airmen concerning a large weapons cache that he said consisted of close to six hundred rockets. The Air Force in turn asked the U.S. Army for assistance. Air Force personnel and a patrol from 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment went to the identified site in the evening of Dec. 27 to investigate.

The intelligence acquired suggested the rockets could be found hidden in some undergrowth along the river next to a tree line. After a short search, the soldiers and airmen found a berm near a tree line that was approximately 35-feet long and four feet high. Buried in the berm, covered with plastic and dirt, they found 580 57-millimeter rockets. The unit secured the perimeter of the site and coordinated with an explosive ordinance disposal team for the destruction of the weapons.

The soldiers secured the position overnight until an explosive ordinance disposal team could destroy the rockets.

So do these fit the criteria for WMDs? Or are they too small?

Seems to me with an objective media this huge find with Iraqi assistance might at least merit a mention. [sigh]

But fortunately our outstanding uniformed servicemembers press on with or without the help of the media. And God bless 'em for it!

57mm diameter missiles are small but still deadly. Anti-tank and anti-personnel. Probably what the roaches have been firing at hotels and Humvees as well.

What drives me crazy is the lefty, Bush-hating, anti-war nutjobs have been screaming, "Where are the WMDs?!" while these 580 missiles have just been found eight months after Baghdad's fall.

They don't understand that this is going to take time.

Personally, I think they don't WANT us to find the WMDs. NOT for the safety of the world, but for the safety of their reputations.

Delusional sickos....

BTW, You ROCK, R.C.!

Those are generally the type of rockets that would be fired from the pod of a helo at lightly armored vehicles and ground troops.

Bumping more good news from Iraq that ABCNNBC BS will ignore and spike.

Of course the NY Slimes and its minions, the DNC, will ignore this good news.

The nine drawfs and the Hildebea$t will ignore this good news.

I wonder if these weren't recoilless rifle rounds .

Just Googling around, it seems to be a standard air-ground rocket size in the Soviet inventory. On helicopters (Hip, Hind) and fixed-wing ground-attack. I couldn't find a picture, but I imagine similar to our 2.75".

Not much use for anything but harassing terror attacks.
Great to get them off the street.
