Limbaugh lurches to the left
St Peterburg's Times ^ | December 29, 2003

Posted on 12/29/2003 6:17:39 AM PST by Alissa

Didn't Rush Limbaugh used to be pro-law and order?

Now that the once conservative commentator finds himself on the wrong side of a police investigation, he and his lawyers are accusing prosecutors and other members of the law enforcement community of concocting a vast, politically motivated conspiracy against him.

Not even the most linguini-spined liberal would have the gall to spew such irresponsible nonsense.

Limbaugh recently completed treatment for an acknowledged addiction to prescription drugs, and Florida prosecutors are investigating evidence that he may have broken the law by going "doctor shopping" to acquire his massive supplies of OxyContin and other painkillers.

A West Palm Beach judge ruled last week that prosecutors had established sufficient cause to examine Limbaugh's medical records, but Limbaugh's lawyers succeeded in getting the records resealed while they appeal the decision.

Either way, the judge and prosecutors have agreed that Limbaugh's medical records will not be made public. By all accounts, police, prosecutors and the courts have have taken great pains to protect Limbaugh's civil rights.

But Limbaugh claims that his problems stem from a massive conspiracy on the part of his political enemies in law enforcement.

"The Democrats still cannot defeat me in the arena of political ideas," Limbaugh said on his Tuesday radio show. "And so now they are trying to do so in the court of public opinion and the legal system."

Limbaugh used to defend the legal system - and he used to ridicule citizens who claimed that their constitutional rights had been violated by police and prosecutors. But now Limbaugh, who is fortunate enough to be able to afford the representation of celebrity attorney Roy Black and a team of defense lawyers, has joined the conspiracy nuts.

The people who have been hunting for someone to host a new left-wing radio talk show may have found their man.

The knives are out in full force towards Rush today. As much as I love Rush, I still don't understand why he got himself into a fix like this! HE KNOWS HE LIVES IN A FISH BOWL, and the RATS would love nothing more but to DESTROY HIM anyway they can. Why, oh why would he do this?!! Did he honestly believe he could hide this? And of all things, getting his maid to get drugs?! First of all I would never trust a CLEANING lady to come to my house and work for me and supply the drug to boot! I am EXTREMELY disappointed in him, will still support him, only because the BITCHY LIBERAL MEDIA WHORES are gongho in bring him down! I for one will forgive and with MORE vigor tune in to his program daily!! GOD BLESS RUSH!! He repented and went to get help, that alone has made me a fan forever!

One thing this thread shows to me is how the anti-WOD Libertarians on FR, on how eagar they are to grab onto any editorial that supports a pro-drug agenda, such as the St. Petersburg's Times. Of course lost on the pro-drug Libertarians on FR, is that the St. Petersburg's Times is even more leftist the New York Times.

Wow! It's always a little dissappointing when one comes away from a thread with only one insight, only to draw the wrong conclusion from it.

Better luck next time, and keep trying.

"The knives are out in full force towards Rush today"

Like always, when the cat's away, the rats will play.

They heard he was going to have others sit in for him on his program all week, so they think they can say what they like and he won't be able to respond right away.

Those extremists (on the left and on the right) pulled the same thing when he was off for a month. Their not-so-subtle threats were the same as they are now -- "He had better back off and show some humility and compassion now, or else."

But when he got back, he said, "I have just one message for you liberals out there; the game is over - I'M BAAAAAACK!!!"

Of course that "messaage" also includes the libertines, since they are merely the flip side of the same extremist coin.

In that case, NO ONE has the moral high ground so it doesn't matter.

Whatever Jim, I am not going to follow your and Michael Jackson's lead that you think as an adult it is OK to have as an excuse to say you have a mind of a child.

This is politically motivated. In order to have the leftists completely take over this country and also to make sure their type of radio coverage will not die on the vine before their first broadcast; they have to knock the big guy out.

We conservatives know better.

You're a wonderful representative of your 'side'. And you've come to all this because 1 - I feel that drugs are a worse curse on this society than our government and 2 - I pointed out you can't cite authority for the things you claim.

1. Drug cartels have never be responcible for mass-genocide; government have on many occasions.

2. Your blindness towards the crimes commited by government is glaring to say the least.

3. See Jraven post (post 79) of this thread.

Betcha some of the pro-druggies on this thread live in gated communities. They're more than happy to let the rest of us live with the results of their dangerous desires.

But you are more than happy to let us live with your dangerious desires for power and control over other people.

You sir are a hypocrite.

Government doesn't make neighborhoods unsafer than crack houses, crack heads and the violence that comes with drug use.

Gooberment makes crack heads, crack houses and crack neighborhoods with the WoSD's. Prohibitions are all the same.

He repented and went to get help,

The question of importance is ..... did the repentance and help take? So far he seems to me to have some burr under his saddle and has his back arched up in defiance. Time will tell as not always the first trick at the clinic is the one that stops the problem.

With luck maybe he'll conquer the problems.

Go to Rush's website and read the transcript of the recent court hearing. It's kind of long but it will clear up several apparent misconceptions you stated in your post.

And when I use the term "libertines", I'm referring to the ones who falsely like to refer to themselves as "libertarians".

America's Framers were true libertarians. They knew that laws are only for the lawless. Law-abiders who restrain themselves, need no external restraint. Unless citizens exersize self-control, freedom is impossible.

A libertine / liberal is really a relativist who only wants to restrain/control himself from doing what is wrong in his own eyes.

Unlike America's Framers, a libertine cares nothing for an absolute standard: "the rule of law".
